If you have
disappearing-type
windshield wipers, it's a
good idea to check the
opening in front of your
windshield regularly to
remove any twigs,
leaves, or what-have-
you that might get stuck
there. These obstructions
would strain the wiper
motor.

A regular squeak from
the front sides of your
car, plus any loss of
steering control, indicate
ball joint wear. Ball
joints should be in
spected at least twice a
year. Driving in bad
weather may dilute the
lubrication and cause
excess wear.

Older engines may need
a richer gas mixture to
assure prompt starting.
Have the choke

Tire pressure should be
increased if you are go

Check the manufacturer
for recommended

Experts say your car will
last longer if you have
the oil changed and the
car lubricated more
often than the manual
suggests. Air and gas
filters should be replac

Lucan juveniles win title
The Lucan juveniles
posted two wins in Minden
over the weekend to capture
an Ontario title, the first for
the community in some
time.
They won the series in
four straight games, having
won both games played the
previous weekend in Lucan.
Backed by about 100 fans
who had made the trip, the
Lucan squad skated to a con
vincing 7-3 win in Saturday’s
opener and then wrapped up
the OMHA “DD” title with a
7-2 triumph, Sunday.
In both games, Minden
scored the first goal, but
their leads were short-lived.
Lucan blew Saturday’s
game wide open with a four-
goal outburst in the second
period, while on Sunday,
they won going away with a
four-goal onslought in the
final stanza.
Paul Medd paced Satur
day’s win with a two-goal
performance. Single tallies
were recorded by LeRoy
Siddle, Rick Freeman,
Kevin Gilmour. Martin
Clark and Ron Glenn.
Jeff Hartman was the
leading triggerman in Sun
day’s contest, as he posted a
hat trick, two of the goals
coming in the final period.
Scoring in single fashion
were Rick Freeman, Ron
Glenn. Tom McGorman and
Kyle Pedersen.
Both games were devoid
of any penalty parades.
Lucan picked up seven in
fractions in each of the con
tests, while Minden had nine
on Saturday and six in Sun
day’s tilt.
the players and fans were
royally treated by their
hosts in their weekend out
ing. Each member of the
team was given a packet
containing souvenirs and
samples from Minden in
dustries and businesses.
Due to their late arrival
home Sunday evening, a vic-
tory parade through Lucan
was delayed until Monday
evening, when the team
members loaded onto a
banner-covered fire truck
for a drive through the com
munity.
However, the weatherman
failed to give his coopera
tion and the trip was ab
breviated due to a heavy
rainfall. The players then
went to the arena for team
photos.
