McDonald 381 JIM SIDDALL &SON Lucan juveniles win title The Lucan juveniles posted two wins in Minden over the weekend to capture an Ontario title, the first for the community in some time. They won the series in four straight games, having won both games played the previous weekend in Lucan. Backed by about 100 fans who had made the trip, the Lucan squad skated to a con­ vincing 7-3 win in Saturday’s opener and then wrapped up the OMHA “DD” title with a 7-2 triumph, Sunday. In both games, Minden scored the first goal, but their leads were short-lived. Lucan blew Saturday’s game wide open with a four- goal outburst in the second period, while on Sunday, they won going away with a four-goal onslought in the final stanza. Paul Medd paced Satur­ day’s win with a two-goal performance. Single tallies were recorded by LeRoy Siddle, Rick Freeman, Kevin Gilmour. Martin Clark and Ron Glenn. Jeff Hartman was the leading triggerman in Sun­ day’s contest, as he posted a hat trick, two of the goals coming in the final period. Scoring in single fashion were Rick Freeman, Ron Glenn. Tom McGorman and Kyle Pedersen. Both games were devoid of any penalty parades. Lucan picked up seven in­ fractions in each of the con­ tests, while Minden had nine on Saturday and six in Sun­ day’s tilt. the players and fans were royally treated by their hosts in their weekend out­ ing. Each member of the team was given a packet containing souvenirs and samples from Minden in­ dustries and businesses. Due to their late arrival home Sunday evening, a vic- tory parade through Lucan was delayed until Monday evening, when the team members loaded onto a banner-covered fire truck for a drive through the com­ munity. However, the weatherman failed to give his coopera­ tion and the trip was ab­ breviated due to a heavy rainfall. The players then went to the arena for team photos. In the series opener, the new champs posted a 4-0 win, paced by Scott Burton’s two-goal performance. Ken Burgman and Gord Beutten- miller added the singles. Tuesday night, they wrapped up the set with a convincing 6-1 triumph. Pete Glover was the scor­ ing leader in that one with four goals, while Burton duplicated his two-goal per­ formance of the first game. Neil Murray had the lone goal for Pfaff Electric.
