The official opening
ceremonies for education
week for the Huron Perth
R.C.S.S. Board will be held
at St. Michael’s School,
Stratford, on April 17.
W.E.P. Fleck, regional
director of education for the
Western Ontario Region of
the Ministry of Education,
will be the guest speaker at
the official opening of
Education Week, April 16-22.
Mayor Keith Culliton, Board
Chairman Don Crowley,
trustees, priests of the
Huron Perth deanery, and
pupils from various county
schools will be taking part in
the program that begins at
8:00 p.m.
A historical display mark
ing one hundred years of
Catholic Education on the
St. Michael’s school site will
also be on display. Pupil
choirs, recorder groups, and
room displays will also be
part of the official opening
program. The theme of
Education Week is “Parle
moi de toi” ’’Speak to me of
yourself”.
Throughout Education
Week the 19 schools in the
Huron-Perth R.C.S.S. will
be having open house and
their own school programs
at each school.
The Offical Opening of
Education Week for Ontario
will be held in Cornwall on
April 16, Minister of Educa
tion, Mr. Thomas Wells will
be participating in the Of
ficial Opening that is being
sponsored by the Stormont,
Dundas, Glengarry Boards
of Education,, both Separate
and Public.
Snowarama
total doubled
In generating a record
$482,100 in pledges for the
1978 Whipper Watson
Snowarama for Timmy, On
tario snowmobilers doubled
their previous year’s total.
Sponsored by the Ontario
Society for Crippled
Children in association with
snowmobile clubs,
associations and local
Easter Seal service clubs,
Snowarama attracted some
4,000 riders. Most completed
the official 100-mile course
of their choice in any of
twenty different areas of the
province where
Snowaramas were held.
The Snowarama which
originated from Hully Gully,
south of Varna had the
fourth highest total of the
twenty Snowaramas held
across the province with
over $27,000 being raised. Its
sister Snowarama in
Dorchester raised $28,000.
Divided equally between
the Ontario Society and the
local Easter Seal clubs in
volved, the net proceeds will
be used to support and
develop local and regional
rehabilitation programs and
services designed to benefit
more than 8.000 of Ontario’s
physically handicapped
youngsters currently receiv
ing some form of active
treatment or assistance
through the Society.
