Staff photo Combines ousted by Parkhill crew The hockey season for the Hensail Combines ended Friday night as the Parkhill Merchants defeated the local squad 7-4 in a game played in Zurich. The Merchants took the best of five South Huron Hockey League semi-final three games to one. On Tuesday the Merchants defeated Hensail 6-4. In Friday’s game Parkhill outscored the Combines 4-1 in the first and maintained their three goal lead throughout the game. Hensali scored the first goal of the game as Dwight Consitt took passes from Fred Campbell and Steve Knight and put one past the Parkhill netminder. Following the four successive goals by Parkhill, Fred Campbell scored at the 5:02 mark of the second to edge the Com bines closer. Steve Knight assisted. That goal was offset by two Merchant tallies midway through the second. In the third period, the Combines staged somewhat of a- comeback as Steve Knight and Terry Caldwell scored. Assisting on the goals were Brian and Fred Campbell and Gary Koehler. The Merchants then scored the final goal of the game. Tuesday’s game played in Parkhill, was a seesaw bat tle with the lead changing hands four times. Fred Campbell started the scoring off at the 9:26 mark of the first stanza with help from Steve Knight. The Merchants scored the other two goals of the period but the Combines came back in the second with goals by Caldwell and Rick Ingram. Assisting on the goals were Steve Knight, Don Taylor, Brian Campbell and Bill Chipchase. With only 24 seconds left in the period, the Merchants tied the game up as they beat John Gould in net for Hensali. Parkhill picked up the first goal of the third period but Wayne Corbett scored for Hensali. Fred Campbell and Caldwell assisted. Following Hensali’s tieing goal, Parkhill scored once again, to regain the lead. Another Merchant counter five minutes later put the game out of reach. Hensali manager Don Reid termed the season “a success” as the Combines won only two games all last season. ft I- About people you know ‘‘Shalom” meaning “Peace with you” was the subject of the sermon at Hensali United Church on Sunday morning, conducted by the Reverend Don Beck.
