Skating carnival draws over 1,300 A crowd in excess of 1,300 contributed to the most successful carnival presented by the Exeter figure skating club Satur day. GIVE BLOOD SAVE LIFE The two program show drew 650 spectators to the South Huron Rec Centre Saturday afternoon and more than 750 showed up for the evening performance. Club president Gaylen Josephson said he was “more than pleased” with the attendance. He added “I wish to thank the skaters and everyone who helped in any way to make the carnival successful.” Josephson continued, “Brad will have to really come up with something special next year to beat this.” He was referring to club pro Brad Loosley who was in charge of the carnival for the seventh year. The first carnival was held in 1952 with Derry Boyle acting as club president. Boyle said this week he thinks there were about 25 skaters in the first carnival. The more than 140 members of the skating club participated in at least one number in Saturday’s carnival which featured “McDonald Land.” Senior members of the club paid a salute to the South Huron Rec Centre in the opening number. Spectators were treated to humour in the second presentation as Steve Pfaff and Jack Underwood skated and (fell) as a nurse and an armed service member. The guest skater was Lori Jolley from the Strathroy and Ilderton figure skating clubs. She was second in the pre-novice competition at the recent Western Ontario sectionals held at Brantford. Lori placed first in her division in the WOSWIC MATHERS MOTORS WILL GIVE YOU THE SHIRTS OFF THEIR BACKS Plymouth Competitions held in March in Sarnia.
