Each tender must be accompanied by a certified che que for $ 1,000. The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted. Deliver tenders to: Mr. D.R. Pearson Resources Manager Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority 175 Thames Rd. W. Exeter, Ontario lie Tuckersmith township council members assured a two-man delegation from the Seaforth Lions club Tuesday night it would carry on with the agreement made 50 years ago by the council with the club with respect to Lions park. A. Y. McLean and Dr. John Turnbull attended the coun cil meeting to enquire whether council would carry on with the same terms in order that the Lions club could request additional fun ding for renovations to the swimming pool and grounds. Mr. McLean, who was spokesman, outlined the history of the Lions park for the new members of council who were not aware of the agreement. He said the club approached the township with a request to purchase the property in 1925. The township council bought the land and rented it back to the club. A swimming pool was made ready in the river in. 1927 and replaced by a new pool in 1956, served by town water. Additional property was purchased in the mid Sixities. The Lions club had assumed management of the park without any cost to the township. A 21-year lease was signed which will be up for renewal soon. Mr. McLean noted that one of the government re quirements is that the property be publicly owned to be eligible for grants, such as the community cen tre grant and Wintario funds, and possibly another source, the Ministry of Natural Resourses. Mr. McLean said the up dating of the pool and the park would be carried out in three phases, but the entire package would be presented to Wintario officials now, on their suggestion. Replacing the electrical wiring will be a priority as the wiring put in 50 years ago is wearing out, shorting from erosion and must be replaced at an expected cost of $10,000 to $11,000. The health authorities call for a new chlorinator which must now be installed above ground at a projected cost of $5,000 to $6,000. To extend the swimming period into August they advised that a heater be extended into the pool. The suggestion is that this will be helpful in pool operations. The wading pool will be provided with heated, chlorinated water. The cost of this first phase is es timated to be between $47,- 000 and $48,000 and will in clude James F. McLaren’s environmental consultant fee and engineering specifications. In other business council accepted the tender of Sandy Contracting Company of Goderich to crush and haul 16,000 cubic yards of gravel for the township roads this spring. It was the lowest of two tenders, a third was not properly covered by bond- certified cheque insuf ficient. The gravel tender is sub ject to approval iby the ministry of transportation and communications. Council accepted the tender of Fred Harburn of Staffa for spraying weeds on the roadsides at the rate of $6.00 per mile, up 25 cents from last year. Elgin Thompson, Tuckersmith representative to Ausable-Bayfield Conser vation Authority reported on the program being carried out by the Authority. Peter Rumble, planning techni cian for the Authority, show ed slides to illustrate the work. John Elder RR 2, Kippen, attended the council session to report he was seeking the approval of the Huron Coun ty planning board for rezon ing his two-acre property at the corner of Highway 4 and the Kippen road (former Bell property) to commer cial from residential. He plans to have a Yamaha sales and service in the pre sent 40 X 60 shed on the property. Council authorized road superintendent Allan Nicholson to attend the Anderson Road School at Guelph University May 7-10. Mr. Nicholson reported a break-in Friday night at township garage — an axe, calculator, and other items were stolen. Same night gas oline was stolen at Henry Ziler’s shop. He said the abutment at the McLean Bridge was struck again by a mo tor vehicle. Council established the metered water rates for the residential and small com mercial consumers at Vanastra — (a) a service charge of $15.00 per four month billing period. Ad ditional self contained apartments to be billed as separate service, (b) Any consumption at a rate of thirty cents per cubic meter during the billing period. These rates compare to a previous $40.00 billing per four months plus 40 cents per cubic meter. Flat rate (c) Any commercial es tablishment without a meter will be charged an ad ditional 30 mills on the bills. A 10 per cent penalty on all water accounts will be levied that remain outstan ding after the due date. Appointed to the com mittee of Adjustment were Jack Bell to January 1,1979; Elgin Thompson to January 1, 1980, and Cleave Coombs to January 1,1981. The by-law was passed for the Elgie Drainage works which is estimated to cost $44,750 for completion. Building permit requests were approved for Walter Denys, RR 2, Kippen for a lean-to barn; John Haverkamp, RR 1, Brucefield, family room on house; Anthony De Jong, RR 4, Seaforth, shed; and Mrs, Ed Chappel, Egmondville, renovations to house in Egmondyille. It was reported a dog bit a child at Vanastra over the weekend and it is being held for a rabies check. No resi dent at Vanastra would ad mit ownership of the dug ex cept one boy, who said it was his but his mother said it was not. ----------------'I TENDERS For Caretaker for the Kippen United Chur ch.
