UCW hear about trip
Orpha members hand in diapers
Orpha club members met
Tuesday afternoon at the
home of Minnie Curts. In the
absence of president Irene
Kennedy the meeting was
chaired by Eva Bariteau.
Mary Ravelle opened with
two poems “Rose of Scar
borough,” and “Ten Com
mandments for happiness.”
During the business it was
decided to send $10 to Bunny
Bundle. Diapers and
donations of baby clothes
were handed in for Lambton
County Children’s Aid.
The next regular meeting
will be April 4 at Valerie
Burke’s home. The date of
the spring pot luck supper
will be April 25 at the
MacLaren’s home. Marge
Mason closed with two
poems “A Child’s prayer,”
and “A blessing in the form
of a prayer.”
United Church
Twenty-two United Church
women met, Thursday af
ternoon in the Sunday School
rooms with president
Eleanor Durie presiding.
Roll call was answered by a
verse of scripture using the
word Faith.
Elda Adams conducted the
worship service on a Lenten-
Easter theme, from death to
life. Scripture from Matthew
was read by Clara Hamilton.
For the program, Hazel
Blewett gave highlights of
her and her husband’s trip
arhund the world. Stopping
first in Rome, Italy, on to
Athens, Greece, Jerusalem
and Jericho in Israel, Delhi,
India, Bangkok, Hong Kong,
Manilla, Philippines, Pearl
Harbour, Hawaii, San
Francisco, Seattle, Victoria
B.C and home again.
She told of St. Pauls
Basilica in Rome, the
largest Church in the world,
seating 7,800 people, of
Greek sculpture, beautiful
Churches and buildings, the
wailing wall and Garden of
Gethsemane, poverty and
wealth in India, the Taj
Mahal which is said to be the
most perfect architecture in
the world.
A three week visit in
Bankok with daughter Judyt
her husband" and’ grand
children, and in Hong Kong a
visit with Rev. & Mrs. Paul
Webb, who are United
Church missionaries there.

Church of God
Church of God ladies met
Thursday afternoon at the
Church for their March
meeting. Roll call was an
swered by memorized verse
of scripture. Lucille Vincent
led the worship service
tracing Christ’s triumphant
entry through to
Resurrection using songs
scripture and poems to
portray it. Janet Desjar-
dine’s mission talk was on
religion in Tanzania.
President, Katie Vincent
presided for business. Lunch
was supplied by Phyllis
Desjardine.
Church of God ladies had
charge of the service Sunday
evening at Church. Lucille
Vincent led worship on a
mission theme..Film strips
on Tanzania were shown
with narration. Janet
Desjardine and Betty
Campbell each read a letter
from the Stah Desjardine’s
who are serving as
missionaries in Tanzania.

will be held at Grand Bend
United Church at 7 a.m.
Afterward breakfast will be
served at 8 a.m.
4-H meetings
Club number one “Quaint
Quilting Queens” held their
fifth meeting Thursday
evening at Rosemary
Vandenberk’s home. Trish
Vanden Bygaart reporting.
The girls and leaders Ellen
Vanden Bygaart and Ellen
Van Leeuwen talked about
their exhibit for
Achievement day.
Discussion followed on
safety measures for poisons
in the home and examined
labels on various things.
4-H club number two, “The
Busy Bodies” met Thursday
evening in Grand Bend town
hall with Julie Sharrow
reporting. Roll call was
answered by “How I would
define a good citizen.”
Topic was people’s ideas
and law’s and they discussed
the three levels of Canadian
Government, Federal,
Provincial, and Municipal.
Home Economist, Miss Bird
attended this meeting.
Leader’s Rita Smits and
Karen Woods served
refreshments.
Theatre group to perform for children
The Grand Bend Branch of and a discussion a t JZurich public school, on
the Lambton County Library
is pleased to announce that
“The Young People’s
Theatre Group,” of Toronto
will be performing “The
Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkein,
for children of all ages and
all Tolkein fans.
The date is Wednesday
March 221978 at 3 p.m. in the
Grand Bend Public School
auditorium. Free admission.
The play is sponsored by
the South West Library
system with the assistance of
the Ontario Arts Council.
There will be some audience
following the play.

Friends in Grand Bend
have been notified of the
death of Floyd Ott, at his
home in Detroit, Michigan.
He has maintained a sum
mer home on Woodward
Avenue here, for many years
where he and his wife spent
the summer months. He will
be sadly missed by friends
and neighbours.

night held Saturday evening

attend U.S. funeral

Funeral service was held
Saturday March 11 for Mrs.
Evelyn Della Maier, wife of
the late George Maier, She
passed away at her home
March 9, in Farmington,
Michigan. Service was held
at the Heeney-Sundquist
Funeral Home Inc. in
Farmington.
Pastor Chuck Sonquist of
Hope United Methodist
Church of Southfield
Michigan officiated.
Interment at Grand Lawn
Cemetery. Mrs. Maier is
survived by two sons George
and Don and five grand
children.
The late George Maier was
born and raised in this area,
spent his young life here
before going to live in the
United States.
Mrs. Maier was in her 65th
year.
Relatives in this im
mediate area who attended
the funeral, Saturday of their
aunt, Mrs. Evelyn Maier, in
Farmington, Michigan, were
Mr. & Mrs. Howard Maier
and sons, Mr. & Mrs. Lome

Mrs. Trojan was the
former Ollie Guenther and
was born in Crediton and
was a sister of the late Carl
Guenther.
She is survived by her
husband Clem, two sons Paul
and Bill and seven grand
children. Funeral service
was held Saturday, March
11.
The first euchre party of
1978 was held Wednesday
night at Shipka Community
Centre with 13 tables in play.

Water Rest Home.

with Bill Morens in
Goderich, Sunday. Mrs.
Morenz and the girls at
tended the matinee of “The
Hiding Place”, at the Park
theatre in the afternoon.
