Times-Advocate, 1978-02-16, Page 15Planning carnival The Grand Bend and area recreation committee is sponsoring a Winter Frolic to be held Sunday afternoon, February 19. The frolic will be held on the Old River bed between the hours of 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Included in the events will be shinny hockey, sleigh rides and children’s games. Rec committee member Keith Crawford told the T-A Monday, “We hope this will be a family affair with everyone bringing sleighs and toboggans to add to the fun. AUTHORITY HOLDS MEETING — The Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority held their first meeting of the year last Wednesday in Exeter. President, Eleanor Durie, presided and opened with a poem, “How we are the same.” Roll call was an­ swered by a “Thought for the day.” It was announced that Greenway U.C.W. would be hosting the Easter ecumenical and that the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church ladies will be hosting the World’s day of prayer service March 3. Marge Mason gave a very interesting report on the Huron-Perth Prebyterial meeting held at Mitchell United Church in January. In a letter from Com­ passion members were asked to help a boy from Haiti. There were 16 lap pads and throws handed in which were made by members and friends, and will go to a nursing home. For the worship Mrs. Durie read scripture from Ephesians and the prayer of St. Francis and a story on “Preparation for retirement.” Secretary Annie Morenz read two missionary letters, one from Paul Webb in Hong Kong and the other from Don and Alice Irwin in Korea. Mrs. Morenz also read a message from World Outreach and “A Soldier’s Bible.” Lunch hostesses Mabel Gill and Fern Love served a delicious lunch of hot pan­ cakes and waffles with maple syrup. Couples Club Fourteen members of the Couples club met at the United Church, Saturday evening. Each couple went to visit a shut in and took cookies. Back at the church after the visits Fred and Marlene Desjardine conducted a worship service on the theme of “Friendship.” During the business it was decided the club would have the sunrise service and breakfast at Easter again this year. Jan Kobe conducted an interesting game of 17 questions with all answers, on a penny. Couples in charge of this meeting were Fred and Marlene Desjardine, Harley and Elaine Moore, Jan and Don Kobe. Personals Mrs. Clara Hamilton at­ tended a district directors meeting Monday at Mrs. Grace Drummond’s home, when all district directors of South Huron met to finalize plans for the 75th an­ niversary dinner in April. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Love, Dashwood, and Bill Love visited Friday with Mr. & Mrs. Colin Love. Hostess, Marian Steckle served decorated valentine cupcakes. After an absence of time since last fall, the men’s club met last Monday evening at the Church of God and reorganized. New executive is President, Russell Snider; Vice president, Ken McGregor; Secretary treasurer, Arnold Gaiser. A devotion period was led by George Winegarden. During the social time, crokinole and other table games were enjoyed. Lunch was cake and ice cream. Youth meet Seventeen Youth Fellowship members of Church of God met Friday evening at Mr. & Mrs. RUssell Sniders home. Table games were played aiid Mrs. Snider led a wor­ ship period and served lunch. Deadline for Classified Ads 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays Opening May 13 Museum soon finished The Lambton Heritage Museum is nearing com­ pletion for the opening date of May 13. Inside work on the museum is completed but display cases are yet to be constructed and set up. Setting up displays is the major task to be completed. CLUBS MEET Two groups of 4H girls met last Thursday evening for their organizational meeting for the new course “Focus on Living.” Group I under the leadership of Ellen Vanden Bygaart and Ellen Van Leeruwen met at the Van Leeuwen home. Officers elected were president, Elly Smeekens; vice-president, Teresa Backx; secretary, Margaret Smits; press reporters, Trish Vanden Bygaart and Rosemary Vandenberk. Group II under the leadership of Karen Woods and Ri-ta Smitts, met Thursday evening at Karen’s home. Officers elected were president, Marilyn Walper; vice-president, Christine Boogemans; secretary, Arleen Walper; press reporter, Julie Sharrow. The girls discussed names for their clubs. Since December, three girls have been packing artifacts to be used in displays at the ! new museum. Some restoration of the artifacts has also been undertaken. Strengths of the collection are about 300 Early Canadian Pressed Glass Water Pitchers, 320 Courier and Ives prints, Indian ar­ tifacts, and housewares of yesteryear. The agricultural building will display tools and farm implements from Brad and Brent Hamilton were weekend visitors with Brent’s grandparents, Mr, & Mrs. Alec Hamilton. Mr. & Mrs. Lome Devine visited Sunday in Mount Forest with Mr. & Mrs. Don Neal, Michael and Shawn, Bill Amos the past. There is also a small chapel behind the museum that will eventually be open to the public for special services. The site of the new Lambton Heritage Museum is a nineteen acre area about five miles south of Grand Bend. Three area collisions Three accidents were in­ vestigated by officers of the Pinery Park detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. One occurred Sunday on Highway 21 near the in­ tersection of Highway 21 and Lambton road 5 and in­ volved a snow vehicle driven by Robert Lyn Qlarke, RR 2, Thedford. Constable F.S. Hubert was the in­ vestigating officer. Last Monday, Constable R.L. Hodge set damages at $700 when vehicles driven by Erwin Heissenberger, and Dianne Hayter, both of RR 2, Grand Bend were in colli­ sion. The mishap occurred on Parkview Crescent, south of Grand Bend and no injuries were reported. Thursday, vehicles driven by Valerie Burke, Oakwood Park and Donald Patterson, 628 Lome Avenue. London collided on the main road of Beach O’Pines. Constable W.T. Elliott listed damages at $300. The second Beaux Arts ball, a dinner-dance to be held at the Theatre Hall in Grand Bend is scheduled for March 4; a rummage sale to be held on June 16 and 17 in conjunction with Grand Bend’s Buffalo Burger Fest; and the second international art auction will be held at the Playhouse on Sunday, August 6.
