Each team scored twice in the final period. The Hawks took a 3-2 lead after 20 minutes of play on successful shots by Brad Taylor, John Van Gerwen and Randy Parsons. Brad Taylor’s goal came on an unassisted effort while Brian Taylor drew the lone assist on Van Gerwen’s score and he teamed with Jamie Caldwell to provide the passing help as Parsons hit the mark. In the second period, the Hawks forward line of Fred Mommersteeg, Ken Pinder and Matt Muller each scored one goal. The game wheeling one finish with leading on shots on goal by 56 to 48. was a free from start to the Hawks Fail to hold lead In Friday’s loss to Mitchell the Exeter club jumped into a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of play but that was the extent of their scoring for the night as Mitchell tallied once late in the first period and scored twice in the final 20 minutes of play. The winning goal came with less than a minute to go. At 2:43 of the opening session, Brion Penhale counted for the Hawks on a three-way effort started by defenceman Phil Knight and Randy Parsons, Only a minute and 26 seconds later, Fred Mom mersteeg put his club two goals up as he hit the mark with assists going to Matt Muller and John Van Ger wen. The Mitchell goals came from the sticks of Phil Avery, Bill Stacey and Murray Elliott. Only eight minor penalties were called in the very cleanly played contest. Mitchell took five of the eight calls. The Lucan-Ilderton Jets gave their home fans plenty for their money Friday night at the Ilderton arena but lost out in overtime, in their only game this week in the On tario Hockey Association Continental senior league. The Jets dropped a 5-4 decision to the Woodstock Royals after forcing over time with only four seconds remaining in regulation time. This week the Jets are in action on two occasions and both are against arch rivals. Friday night they will play host to the Durham Huskies at the Ilderton arena at 8:15 p.m. and Sunday night they travel to the London Gardens to meet the London Kings. Game time is 7 p.m. In Friday’s game with Woodstock each team scored one goal in the first period. Ed Robb connected for the Jets on a three-way combination with Terry Johnston and Jamie Robb and Don Jones replied for the Royals. In the second session, Woodstock fired three un answered goals to take a commanding lead. The successful shots came from the sticks of Doug Paton, John Yeoman and John Gof- ton. The Jets came to life in the third period, but almost not in time. At 3:47 Ray Love converted passes from Gary Fera and Brian Murphy to cut the Woodstock lead to 4-2. But, that was the end of the L-I scoring for the next 15 minutes. When a loss seemed imminent Gary Fera connected on passes from Barry Baynham and Brian Murphy at 18:45. Shortly after this Jets coach Jack Chipchase pulled goalie John Robertson for a sixth attacker and it work ed. Ray Love scored with only four seconds left. Chipchase drew an assist. In the overtime period. Don Jones scored the winner for Woodstock at 3:03 with Ian McTavish of the Jets off for tripping. Shots on goal were close with the Jets winning 36 to 34. 40-2006 gfSsS FEBRUARY f4th .tVMENnMSjjfr of the month Mi■■ - -1 ■ ,'li Mlm mi 9SI d ti A mi; I & L Radio Shack @Js) A DIVISION OF TANDY ELECTRONICS LIMITED AUTHORIZED V tftf f V One beautiful buy in stereo!
