Mrs. Hilda Bodaly opened with prayer. The roll call was answered with a Scrip­ ture verse on “Prepare.” Letters were read from missionaries in Thailand. Kenya. Rhodesia and Hong Kong. President Ruth McLaren reported that the official amount turned in at Penny Day last July from the Western Ontario District was $53,808.05. Mrs. Edith Millar read a poem about the love of Jesus. Mrs. Mary Blanchard told of the pioneering work of Mr. Kenneth Gates in the sub-Arctic. Due to his ef­ forts, Hay River opened its first church in 1950; the community also now has a hospital, the only one in North America ad­ ministered by the Pentecostal Assemblies. The W.M.C. will be in charge of the morning ser­ vice at the Exeter Church on W.M.C. Day. February 19. Mrs. Ray Austin will be the speaker. She and her hus­ band are living in Exeter this year while on furlough from their missionary duties in Taiwan. Mrs. Molly Waddell spoke on private prayer - our at­ titudes and God’s re­ quirements. Mrs. Bruce Pierce and Mrs. Lome Preszcator directed devotions, following the theme Love. Poems were read and a story entitled “Loving the Unlovely.” Mrs. Pierce recorded on a flip sheet the things mem­ bers said they loved. Mrs. Preszcator accompanied the singing of hymns. Mrs. Ross Pickering conducted the business. Roll Call was answered by naming something one wished to learn to do or make. It was decided to hold a bakeless bake sale in the spring, a Mother and Daughter banquet May 5 and a yard sale, June 3. The : quilt prepared by certain members was donated to Mission Services, London. Lightfoot group a top. It is quilt and offered by auction during the yard sale. Lunch was served by Mrs. Hugo Schenk, Mrs. Nelson Lamport and Mrs. Aaron Wein. Michael Pierce sang to the accompaniment of his guitar while the meeting drew to a close. The UCW will share in the World Day of Prayer Service at Greenway Anglican Church, March 3. Zion United Church Zion United Church held its congregational meeting Tuesday evening. Rev. Bruce Pierce chaired the meeting and Earl Neil acted as secretary. Rev. Mrs. Emerson Penhale explained the purpose#Mrs. Jerry Grubb read “Here’s a new day, Adam.” A skit New Year’s prepared by Mrs. Dan Coward was enjoyed by all. Members taking part were Mrs. Ina Skinner, Mrs. Philip Hern. Mrs. Wm. Allen. Mrs. Grubb led in prayer. Everyone enjoyed lear­ ning the World Day of Prayer song “As Children of One Father.” The offering and prayer led by Mrs. Grubb followed. Mrs. Howard Pym with the assistance of posters ex­ plained the new committee names and duties. Mrs. Emerson Penhale read “Blessed is the Leader.” The hymn “Take my Life and Let it be” closed this part of the meeting. Miss Ruth Skinner opened the business part of the meeting with a New Year’s verse. The roll call was answered by a donation to the card fund. The members decided to have a quilting bee and a pot luck dinner. The members are invited to World Day of Prayer at Thames Road, March 3. Mrs. Philip Hern and Mrs. Philip Johns gave a report of the presbyterial held in Mitchell. A ten cent tea followed. Play cards The second card party was held at the Elimville hall with eight tables in play. The winners were: Ladies high, Geraldine Grimminck; ladies lone, Blanche Johns; men’s high, Lawrence Beckett; men’s lone, Percy Noels; low, Ed Rodd. Another euchre will be held Monday evening.
