Hit, runs
investigated
Two of the three accidents
investigated by the Exeter
OPP thi§r week were hit and
run incidents.
On Thursday, a vehicle
driven by Robert
Boogemans, Dashwood, was
struck by an unknown
vehicle on concession 12-13 at
Elm St, in Dashwood.
Damage to the Boogemans
vehicle was listed at $100 by
Constable Wally Tomasik.
The other hit and run was
reported on Saturday when a
parked car owned by Larry
J. Cronyn, Centralia, was
struck by an unknown
vehicle on Parkdale Ave. in
Huron Park.
Constable Bob Whiteford
set damage at $125.
The only other accident of
the week occurred on High
way 84 west of Hensall when
a vehicle driven by Robert
Lavery, Hensall, collided
with a parked car owned by
Robert Reaburn, also of
Hensall. Damage was listed
at $3,150 by Constable Frank
Giffin.
Hubcaps stolen
from co-op
OPP Constables Bill
Lewis, Larry Christiaen and
Jack Straughan are in
vestigating three hubcap
thefts which occurred in the
Zurich and Hensall areas on
Friday.
Three hubcaps were stolen
from a vehicle owned by
Hensall District Co-Op, four
from a pickup owned by Roy
Gingerich, Zurich, and four
from a car owned by Edward
A. Prang, Zurich.
Total value of the three
thefts was listed at $160.
Want street
widened
In giving his monthly
police report to council,
Chief Ted Day suggested
this week that Victoria St.
be widened from the rec
centre entrance to the
grandstand to allow vehicles
to angle park on the north
side of the road.
He said this would open up
several more parking spots
for the people who park at
the public school during the
day, as well as rec centre
patrons.
In the spring, parking on
the south side of Victoria in
the area of the school will be
prohibited.
Day noted that on Friday
night, there were some 600
cars in the area of the rec
centre due to a dance and a
hockey game being in
progress at the same time,
and he said that several
problems were experienced.
Council asked Glenn Kells
to investigate the cost of
widening Victoria St. to
follow the Chief’s suggestion
for increased parking.
Statistics from the
January police report were
as follows: 14 accidents with
damages of $11,860 and four
injuries, three charges and
10 warnings under the
Highway Traffic Act, 17
parking tickets, six charges
under the Liquor Licence
Act, three thefts with total
loot of $115.80 of which
$20.80 has been recovered,
three break and enters with
the value of stolen property
being $385.61, four animal
complaints, nine house
checks.
