HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1978-02-02, Page 2Page 2 February 2, 1978 Kin learn about new organization Mayor Bruce Shaw was guest speaker at the Exeter Kinsmen meeting held Thursday, January 19,at the Huron Restaurant. Mr. Shaw spoke on the development ot the Big Brothers in the Exeter area from its inception just a lit­ tle over a year ago. He also explained what Big Brothers can do for the community. Mr. Shaw finished by out­ lining some of the clubs future endeavours, such as, recruiting in the near future for more Big Brothers. The rest of the Kinsmen meeting was spent discuss­ ing present and up coming events. Preparation for the Kinsmen dance to be held at the Rec Centre Friday, February 3 has been com­ pleted. Music that night will be by Roger Quick and the Rainbows. The club has decided this year to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. Members will participate in a walkathon as well as hold a 50-50 draw. The floor hockey program got off to a good start Satur­ day January 21 at the J.A.D. McCurdy Public School in Huron Park. From all ac­ counts the first week of the program was quite successful. Any children between the ages of 8 to 14 who still wish to participate just go to the school gymnasium at J.A.D. McCurdy Saturday at 10 AM or phone Ken Kleges at 228- 6532 to register. Clandeboye storm notes Mrs. Arnold Blake who drives for Murphy Bus lines was stranded in London after a very nerve-wrecking drive through the storm. She spent the night with her sister-in- law, Mrs. Harvey Gilbert. ’ Several students from this area were storm-stayed at Medway High School overnight, Thursday. Mrs. Ron Morgan who works at St. Josephs Hospital had to stay at work. Mrs Keith Simpson stayed with friends in London. Snowmobilers checked the 17 cars and trucks that were abandoned between Clandeboyeand/the north end of Lucan. Several people took refuge at the home of Jack and Helen Hardy. Among them was the driver of a McCains frozen food truck, so food, especially Pizza was in good supply there. A Lewis bread truck was stuck at the north end of Clandeboye so the Carter store was able to replenish their bread supply which was in great demand. The dairy farmers were glad to see better weather by Saturday to let the snow plows through as their bulk tanks were overflowing and more. Mr. & Mrs. Rea Neil were thankful for their small wood stove as their hydro was off for over two days. The Gebel family were also with out hydro for that time. They spent part of the time with the Art Hodgins family. Personals Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Raycraft left Tuesday for California where they will spend the next two months. Mrs. Russell Brock, Goderich spent Tuesday with her sister, Mrs. Art Hodgins. Mr. & Mrs. David Kes tie attended the christening of their grand-daughter, Jessie Beth, daughter of Nancy and Mike Stahl. The service was held at the Glad Tidings Assembly in Empress Ave. United Church, London on Sunday. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Kurt Gebel on the arrival of their fourth grandchild Tamara Kathleen, born on Sunday at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
