The January meeting of
Kippen UCW was held
Tuesday instead of a week
earlier because of weather
and road conditions. Fifteen
ladies gathered in the
Sunday School room for a
delicious pot luck dinner.
Again roads and weather
conditions kept some from
attending.
The worship period in
charge of Mrs. Bert Faber
was based on the 121st
psalm, two hymns were sung
with Mrs. Ross Broadfoot at
the piano. Mrs. Faber closed
this portion with prayer.
The retiring president,
Mrs. David Cooper, opened

CWL meet
The Catholic Women’s
League opened the meeting
last Wednesday night with
Father J. McGraw saying
Mass. It was a well attended
meeting with 25 members
present.
The guest speaker for the
evening was Father Gus
Kandathil from India. Along
with some help on this side of
the ocean, he instigated the
“Save a Family Plan.” With
this aid, a family can start to
help themselves. Otherwise
all the family’s effort is put
into today’s meal. He had a
film to show the progress of
at least 700 people “adop
ting” a family. People from
all over North America have
written to St. Peter’s
Seminary in London to get
information on this project.
The CWL gave Father
Kandathil $550 which were
the proceeds from their
Christmas mini bazzar.
A letter from the CWL’s
national president on por
nography and bill C 207. was
read. Every member was
asked to write to their
Member of Parliament
telling them that they sup
port the Bill. The Members
were asked to take the time
to visit a senior citizen
especially during the winter
since the days are long for
them.

Mrs. Anita Giesen
reported that a van load of
clothes was delivered to a
center in London to be
distributed where needed.
United Church
The Lucan United Church
Friendship Unit opened the
New Year with a meeting
Wednesday. They report a
fantastic number of twenty
one members. The guest
speaker for the evening was
Mrs. Jean Brown, the
minister’s wife. She spoke of
their five years in Angola
and showed woodcarvings
which the people had made
and which depict their life
style.
Two members of the
Friendship Unit have been
asked to be on the committee
for the Learning for Lent
program. The Learning for
Lent series is an annual
program put on by the
United Church during Lent
and is an excellent op
portunity for learning a craft
and socializing with your
neighbors.
