WILLIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD The postponed meeting of the United Church Women was held Monday evening with 25 ladies present. Mrs. William Rohde opened the meeting with, “Nineteen Seventy Eight A Year of Promise.” Mrs, Rohde read Psalm 121 followed with the Meditation. There are 12 promises, one for each month namely Gods presence, ~ ' protection, God’s Gods provision, leading^Gods wise purposes. Each' one was repeated with a verse of Scripture with Mrs. George Kellett, Mrs. David Passmore, Mrs. William Rowcliffe, Mrs. Archie Etherington, Mrs. Bev Alexander, Mrs. John . Pym taking par.t. They each held up a card with the wording done in block letters by Miss Joyce Cunnington. Vocal duet by Mrs. Fred Johns, and Mrs. William Rohde accompanied by the pianist Mrs. Reg Hodgert. They sang “Standing on the Promises.” Poem God hath not Promised by Mrs. Howard Cunnington. Prayer by Mrs. Ross Hargreaves. The worship service was prepared by Mrs. Glenn Jeffery who could not be there. Mrs. Ross Hodgert received the offering with prayer by Mrs. Rohde. Study book is on the Caribbean this year- Mrs. Rohde gave a talk on Trinidad and Mrs. Hargreaves spoke on her recent trip to Trinidad and Mrs. Murray Dawson showed Mrs. Hargreaves pictures. The president opened the business section with a poem Gods power, Gods Church reports at Clandeboye friendship recipe everyone repeated United Church Womens Purpose. The usual business was dealt with. It was decided to cater to the curling banquet in April at the Recreation Centre in Exeter. Used eye glasses and stamps are being asked for, anyone wishing to give please bring to church. Miss Debbie Lynn, pianist for the church is resigning at the end of April because of work commitment, so anyone interested, please contact the church secretary Mrs. Gerald Lynn. May 7 was set for the church anniversary with Rev. Keith Brown taking the service. HUGH MORENZ Mr. & Mrs. Harold Vin­ cent, Lori Michael and Michelle, have returned from a three week holiday in Englewood Florida. Mrs. Vincent’s mother, Mrs. Fred Hoffman of Barryton Michigan, accompanied them down and remained there for the winter months. Sympathy is extended to the Ken Baker family, in the death, Sunday evening of Ken’s aunt, Mrs. Grace Stewardson' who passed away at Strathroy Hospital. She was a sister of the late, Mrs. Major Baker, Shipka. During the severe storm, last week, Monday and Tuesday roads were blocked in this area andtherewere no school buses running or mail delivery. Mrs. Doris Sweitzer returned home Thursday after a three week stay in Welland with her mother Mrs. Elsie Comfort and other relatives, and a day spent with friends in St. Catharines. Mr. & Mrs. Gus Van Massenhoven, Anita, Ronnie and Michael visited Sunday evening in Parkhill with Mr. & Mrs. Louie Van Sas and family. Friday afternoon and Saturday evening visitors with Harvey, Gloria and Kevin Beierling, were Ken and Judy Sanders, Grand Bend, and Frank and Mabel McClinchey of near Zurich, Mr. & Mrs. Earl Keller, Cathy Ann, Ross and Joey. Mrs. Hugh Morenz visited Monday afternoon at the Bluewater Rest Home with her cousin Mrs. Ruby Hoggarth. Sfofi in t&e staying with their grand­ parents, Mr. & Mrs. Orville Rollings while their parents Margo and Bob Richardson are holidaying in Hawaii. Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Gebel returned Saturday from a two week holiday in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carter, Mrs. Viola Carter, Mr. and Mrs. George Simp­ son, Ken and Helen, Jim Hearn, and Mr, and Mrs. Wayne MacLeod were guests at an anniversary party on Saturday evening in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Gill who have just returned from a year in England, held at the home of Gerrys parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Gill, London. Philip Bell, who had his two legs and a wrist broken in a pedestrian-car accident before Christmas was able to return home from University Hospital Thursday despite his many casts. We wish Phil a speedy recovery. * Mrs. Doug Fenton, Belgrave visited recently with her mother, Mrs. Ethel Donaldson and both attended a bridal shower for Fay Black, held at the home of Mrs. Len Maidment, Lon­ don. Saturday they attended the Black-McCrae wedding in Forest. u.c.w. The U.C.W. met Tuesday afternoon at the home of the president, Mrs. Ethel Donaldson. After the devotional part of the meeting, year end reports were discussed also plans for catering to a wedding in early February. The hostess served lunch and a social time enjoyed. Mrs. Isabelle Cann of Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. Reg Hodgert, Grant, Brenda and Scott were Sunday supper guests with Mrs. Mary Hodgert, Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde visited Friday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Doug Rohde, Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. William Stewart, London were Saturday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Miller. Misses Barbara Miller and Jill Cross, Guelph spent the week-end with Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Miller. Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Miller and Mr. & Mrs. Barry Miller joined with friends at an Open House Sunday at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ken Ottewell, Exeter in honor'of their son Michael and his friend Miss Joan Bloedel of Edmonton Alberta.
