The map illustrating the groups of islands which compose the Caribbean Crescent was shown and the history of the people, since Hear sermon on names Rev. Don Beck conducted the service at Hensall United Church on Sunday with Mrs. John Turkheim at the organ. Mr. Harry Horton sang as a solo, “Dear Lord, Forgive.” The subject of the sermon was, “Our Name is. . .” Christian names are treasured possessions, but to be Christian is to inherit the work Jesus began; this means paying a big price in being ready to renounce everything. The business was con­ ducted by newly elected leader, Mrs. Hans Ger- stenkorn. Unit two is responsible for flowers in March and the program for the general meeting in April. At the annual congregational meeting on January 25 the unit is to serve and a hot roast beef dinner will probably be held on April 26. World Day of prayer to be held in the United Church on March 3 with Mrs. Van Essen of Exeter as speaker. Galbraith beloved wife of G. Earl Gass of Hensall passed away in her 47th year. Mother of Miss Brenda Gass Hensall and daughter of Wilfred Galbraith, Grand Valley. Predeacesed -by one son and two daughters. Also surviving are four brothers Laverne Galbraith, Shelburne; Earl Galbraith, Walkerton; Herman Galbraith Shelburne; Trueman Galbraith, Grand Valley. Funeral service was held from the Bonthron Funeral Home Hensall Saturday January 14 with Rev. Bryce Taylor, Guelph, officiating. Corbett picked up a goal of his own with Brian Campbell and Lloyd Dilan assisting. Goderich then came back with three straight goals at the end of the first and the start of the second, to come within one goal of Hensall. The Combines increased their lead to two goals as Brian Campbell scored a break-away with Dilan and Corbett assisting. I Goderich stormed back with four goals to take a 7-5 lead. Hensall tied the game up as Fred Campbell scored on a power play goal. Corbett added the assist. One minute later, Dan Taylor knotted the score at seven-all as Consitt assisted. Goderich put the game away with two goals in the final ten minutes of the game. The same two teams did battle last night in Zurich. / By MRS. Hensall lead "all the way, scoring four goals in the first period against Elma- Logan’s one. The lone goal scored by the latter team went to Donald Marks assisted by Don Wilson. Hensail’s scorers were Doug Volland assisted by Jamie McClinchey and Ron Lavery, Jeff Rowe assisted by Pete Bedard, Dave Consitt unassisted and finally Jeff Rowe unassisted. Hensall scored their other four goals in the second period with Elma-Logan again scoring only one goal by Curtis Callinson assisted by Don Marks. Scoring in that period for Hensall were Jamie McClinchey assisted by Paul Smale, Jeff Rowe. Elma- Loganscored their third goal in the third period this goal scored by Donald Marks assisted by Dave Hoshiel. A doff of the hat to Jeff Rowe and Dave Consitt of Hensall and Donald Marks of Elma-Logan for making the “hat trick”. Mrs. Elizabeth Riley returned home after holidaying in Florida. Burt Coleman returned to London after spending the weekend with his mother Mrs. Galdys Coleman and brother Ivan. Mr. & Mrs. Glen Harburn and Mrs. Madeline Harburn have returned home following a two weeks’ vacation in Florida. Rev. Fox conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church Sunday continuing his series of messages from the gospel of Luke. His Theme being “The Boy*3Jesus in the Temple.” The flowers in the church were placed in loving memory of the late Mrs. Earl Gass by her family. The Taziar family tertained the residents Flyers split two games The Zurich Flyers split a pair of games last week defeating arch-rival Hensall 6-4 and losing to Grand Bend 6-2. In Friday’s win over Hensall, the Combines opened the scoring on a goal by Terry Caldwell as Brian Campbell and Dan Taylor assisted. Zurich tied the game up on a goal by Bob Farqhuar with Steve Bedour picking up the assist. Hensall then hit for three goals as Caldwell with his second and third goals of the game and Rick Ingram with a single, put Hensall back into the lead. Assists went to Brian Campbell with two and Steve Knight and Dwight Consitt adding singles. Zurich put the game away with four consecutive goals as Glen Overholt and Steve Bedour scored two goals each. Ron Rader picked up the single tally. The assists went to Dave Cyr, Bedour, Travis Postill, Pete Postill, Kevin McKinnon, Farqhuar and Overholt. In Sunday’s game against the Grand Bend Colonials, the visitors scored three straight goals before Mike Clarke could find the range for the Flyers with Ron Rader and Kim JMckinnon assisting. The Colonials notched another two goals before Kevin McKinnon scored for Zurich. Kim and Randy McKinnon assisted on their brother’s goal. Grand Bend scored the final goal of the game. The Flyers played last night against CCAT. Kingsway and Wildwood Nursing Homes during the Christmas holidays. FRED BOWDEN The first meeting of the New Year for Centralia United Church Women was held in the schoolroom of the United Church Thursday evening. The meeting was opened by president Mrs. Alvin Lobb with a poem “Prayer for the New Year.” Minutes and reports were read and reoorts adopted, donated covered choir gowns. Thank you letters were read from World Outreach Medical Aid and from the Association for the hard of hearing in London for money received. U.C.W. presbyterial to be 'held in Mitchell January 24 was discussed. June Essery, Etta Powe and Adeline Elliott were in charge of devotions and opened with a poem “Things that haven’t been done before” by Adeline Elliott. Rob and Ruth Anne Essery played a guitar and piano duet that was enjoyed by all. The" hymn “Standing At the Portal” was sung and was followed with prayer by Etta Powe. Two skits were introduced by Edith Lobb. The first on “The Lord’s Prayer” taken by Etta Powe at morning coffee break and Adeline Elliott representing the Lord in the Corner. The second skit “Program Pointers” with June Essery as leader in Presbytery workshop and Etta Powe and Adeline Elliott in group discussion. The hymn “Wonderful Love” was sung in closing. Ladies of the community are asked to please save Canada Packers labels, York Farms, and guarantee square from Monarch flour for the U.C.W. Communion will be ob­ served and there will be a baptismal service in the United Church Sunday morning. After the service there will be a pot luck lunch followed by the annual congregational meeting. A good attendance is requested. Mr. & Mrs. Charles Cor­ bett held open house at their home Sunday January 8 in honour of their daughter Jane and her husband John Becker. George Prest and Elmer Lewis were recent visitors with Cecil Ellwood. The euchre party held Friday evening at Brinsley community center was convened by Mr. & Mrs. Fred Lewis and Mr. & Mrs. Wilbert Lewis with seven tables in play. Prizes going as follows: ladies high-Mrs. Marjorie Steeper, ladies lone-Mrs. Joe Burnie; ladies low-Mrs. Glen Hodgins. Men’s high-Mrs. Charlie Rollings, playing a man’s card, lone hands-Charlie Rollings, and low hands- John Levine. Next party will be held on January 27, with Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Hodgins and Mrs. Roy Hodgins as conveners. The United Church annual congregational meeting will be held Sunday after Church service, and will be preceded by a pot luck dinner. A retirement party was held Sunday for Lloyd Odd at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Sadler. The ladies of St. Marys Guild, Brinsley held their meeting Tuesday evening January 3, at the home of Mrs. Levi White. Mrs. Allan Rowe and Mrs. White were the hostesses. Several plans were made for the year and the date set for the strawberry and ham supper to be June 21. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Hodgins, Strathroy visited with her parents Mr. & Mrs. Fred Lewis Sunday evening.
