Outline plan for industries Ontario will pay up to $1,- 000 for a professional consul­ tant to evaluate energy use in manufacturing plants us­ ing up to $100,000 a year in total energy costs. The plan is one of On­ tario’s energy management programs being undertaken by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. The overall objective is to reduce energy use in the province 15 per cent by 1980. The Ministry will pay 50 per cent of the costs of the evaluation and recommen­ dations for improvement up to the maximum of $1,000. To qualify, manufacturers must establish an ongoing energy managment program and must have the capability of implementing the consultant’s report. Evaluations must be com­ pleted by March 31,1978. Deputy-reeve Bob Simpson agreed saying, “We were nice giving them warnings, it’s as simple as that.” Council agreed to ask the County of Lambton to an impact study on the recent tax reform proposals by Ontario Treasurer D’Arcy McKeough. In suggesting the study, reeve Bob Sharen said, “They are asking for the advice and expertise of local government leaders, so, I feel it should be studied by a larger group like the county.” Sharen continued, “I am just making you aware of the magnitude and importance of this report.” In other business, council:- Discussed a request from the Grand Bend Chamber of Commerce to place flower pots on 14 light standards in the village. Council was asked to take care of the expense of watering the flowers. Learned from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Communications that maintenance of traffic signals and flashers would now be the responsibility of the municipality. Councillor Harold Green who is also chairman of the Grand Bend recreation com­ mittee told council Monday night of the many activities going on in the village this winter. For the ladies an excellent “keep fit’’ class is being conducted by Mrs. Gina Fischer at the Grand Bend Public School Tuesday evenings from 8:15 to 9:15 p.m. and Friday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Classes are now in progress and any other ladies are asked to register immediately.
