The Lucan-Ilderton Jets
won only one of four Ontario
Hockey Association Con
tinental Senior league games
this week, but it proved to be
very important.
The week started off
dismally for the Jets as they
lost 8*3 to Woodstock,
Wednesday night and were
on the short end of a 5-2 count
to the Preston Jesters,
Friday.
Things changed Sunday
afternoon as the Jets edged
the Stratford Perths 5-4 in
overtime
The Sunday victory over
Stratford put the two teams
into a tie for the last playoff
position.
The same two clubs met
again in Stratford Tuesday
night but the deadlock
continues as the game ended
in a 4-4 overtime tie.
The schedule this week for
the Jets calls for only two
games. They will be at home
at the Ilderton arena Friday
night at 8.15 p.m. to the
Woodstock Royals and
Sunday afternoon they travel
to Durham to meet the
Huskies at 2 p.m.
Lots of shots
In Tuesday’s tie contest,
the Jets held a good edge in
shots on goal over their
Stratford opposition. They
outshot the Perths 57 to 39
with 13 coming in the 10
minute overtime session.
The Jets held a 2-1 lead
after the first period on goals
by Gary Fera and Ron Tyler
while Randy Miller replied
for the Perths.
Tyler who was up to the L-I
club from the Strathroy
Blades junior team hit on a
screen slap shot with the
assist going to Barry
Baynham.
Ray Love and Baynham
provided the assists for
Fera’s score which came on
a power play.
Each team scored one goal
in the middle frame. Mitch
Kennedy was the Stratford
marksman and Gary Fera
hit for the Jets on passes
from Ray Love and Brian
Murphy.
In the third period, Ed
Robb counted for the Jets
with assists going to Brian
Murphy and Gary Fera.
Randy Miller and Brian
Dundas scored for the Perths
to send the game into
overtime.

the victory.

Wells and Debbie Lightfoot.
The second successful shot

Short Overtime
Sunday’s win for the Jets
over the Perths in overtime
came very quickly in the
extra session.
Only 27 seconds had
elapsed when Gary Fera
scored to send the Lucan-
Ilderton fans home happy.
Terry Johnston did a lot of
digging in the corner to get
the puck to Fera for the
winning shot. Brian Murphy
also assisted.
The game appeared to be
won for the Jets in regulation
time, but, Stratford came up
with their fourth and tying
goal with only 17 seconds to
go.
The Perths took a 3-1 lead
in the first period on goals by
Brian Dundas, Wayne Hurtle
and Randy Miller. The lone
first period marker for the
Jets was fired by Ed Robb on
a three-way effort with
Jamie Robb and playing
coach Jack Chipchase.
Brian Murphy chalked up
the only goal of the second
period to cut the Stratford
lead to a single goal. Murphy
was at the side of the
Stratford net at 14.15 to poke
the puck past goalie Dennis
Thorpe. Gary Fera and
Steve Proctor picked up
assists.
The Jets tied the score at 3-
3 at 3.18 of the third period as
Terry Johnston blinked the
red light. Assisting was
Jamie Robb.
Ed Robb notched what
appeared to be the game
i winning goal at 14.22 when he
pounced on his own rebound.
Jamie Robb and Terry
Johnston also assisted.
With the Jets victory
virtually in the bag, Brian
Dundas grabbed the puck
from a face-off in the L-I end
and beat John Robertson on
the short side to sent the
game into overtime.
Face Early Deficit
In Friday’s loss to Preston,
the Jets found themselves
behind 4-0 by the end of the
second period. Terry
Gregory scored twice for the
Jesters with single goals
going to Jim Springall and
Randy King.
Scott Graham broke the
scoring famine for the Jets
at 7.49 of the third frame as
. he tipped in a shot from the
point by Ken McCutcheon.
Jim Springall scored again
for Preston and Scott
Graham added the last Jets
marker with assists going to
Terry Johnston and Ian
McTavish.
Stay in Contention
Despite an 8-3 loss to
Woodstock Wednesday, the
Jets stayed in contention
until well into the third
period.
Although the Royals led 4-2
at the end of 40 minutes of
play, the Jets outplayed their
opposition and were still in
the game until the fifth
Woodstock goal was fired at
12.52 of the final session.
The Jets were able to score
one goal in each period.
Jamie Robb was the first
period L-I marksman with
assists going to Ed Robb and
Barry Baynham.
In the second period, Brian
Murphy drilled a hard 25 foot
shot past Jim Brown in the
nets for the Royals on an
unassisted effort.
Gary Fera Completed the
Jets scoring in the third
period as he was successful
on a play started by Brian
Murphy and Ray Love.
Don Jones led the Wood-
stock scoring attack with a
two goal effort while single
goals were carded by Ted
Brown, Dave McLaren,
Gene McLaren, Ted Long,
Doug MacFarlane and Ray
Tilley.
