Leading off the local activities will be Whipper Watson’s Snowarama on Sunday, January 29. The next evening Dorothy Pfaff and her Exeter Marching Mothers will be conducting their annual campaign for the March of Dimes. Tuesday, February 7, the Exeter Lions club will be hosting their fifth annual Sportsmen’s Dinner and Sunday, February 12 the annual Crippled Kids Day will be held at the Pineridge Chalet. Whipper's Snowarama In last year’s Whipper Billy Watson’s Snowarama some 357 snowmobile riders in North Middlesex and South Huron raised over $39,000 by riding the 100 mile trail. This year the London area ride will be split into divisions. One will be for Middlesex and will leave from Dorochester while the Huron ride will get un derway at Hully Gully and the Pineridge Chalet. The Huron ride will cover sdme 85 miles of varied terrain and scenic Huron County countryside. It has been shortened somewhat from last year’s 100 mile course to accommodate the wishes of more snow- mobilers. Both Hully Gully and Pineridge Chalet will have registration booths, starting points, lots of parking and food vouchers given free to each participant may be redeemed at either of these two points along the way. Local Easter Seal service club members will be manning four other check points along the way where riders must have their cards punched to show proof of completion. Any area snowmobile enthusiasts wishing to par ticipate should contact Hully Gully, the Pineridge Chalet or Mike Caissie at 238-8639 or 238-8195 in Grand Bend. Expected to be in attendance at Hully Gully the afternoon of January 29 is Whipper Billy Watson who is known as the best friend of crippled children. Helping adults, too Handicapped adults will benefit from the Marching Mothers canvass which will be held the evening of Monday, January 30. The local marching mothers are something likes the mailmen of days gone by who made their ap-* pointed rounds through hail or sleet or storm. Several years ago Dorothy Pfaff and her cohorts made their rounds on snowmobiles through one of our now ordinary snowstorms. Mrs. Pfaff expects to have about 40 ladies out on the streets at 6 p.m. on January 30. Last year’s collec tion in Exeter was $1,537. Lions help kids The Exeter Lions club will be doing their bit for crippled children in .this area and throughout Ontario with their fifth annual Sportsmen’s dinner on Tuesday, February 7. This dinner is one of the sporting highlights of the year when a large number of celebrities take time from their busy schedules to help the cause of those less fortunate than themselves. The list of speakers is probably the best of any so • far.Normie Kwong is reported to be an excellent after dinner speaker. He will be ably supported by fellows like Red Kelly, Glenn Weir, John Konihowski, Dick Shatto, Bill Symons, Bob Bailor, Dave Lemanczyk, Larry Jeffrey and Ken Doig. The female contingent will include Diane Jones Konihowski, Sherri Baier and Jill Ross. More help for kids Another very popular event to assist crippled kids is the annual Crippled Kids Day at the Pineridge Chalet. This will take place Friday, Saturday and Sun day, February 16,17 and 18. London’s Timmy who this year is 12 year-old Dan ny Ruthven is expected to attend the Sportsmen’s dinner and the Pineridge weekend. CFPL’s popular radio host Bill Brady will also have a dual role to play. Brady will be the master of ceremonies at the Exeter dinner and will be one of the pancake making chefs in the Pineridge Chalet kitchen. The four teams in the Dashwood league will be out in full force on Sunday afternoon, January 29 at the Dashwood athletic field. The games will be played on the snow covered field.
