South West are present leaders of the London and District major pee wee league and they retained their unbeaten record with a thrilling 2-2 tie against Huron County. Huron are coached by Dave Silcock of Exeter and included in his Sunday line up were local stars Greg Ryan and Dave Murray from Staffa, Dave Scott and Wayne Gale, Grand and Exeter’s Chris Gerwen. South West settled first and took an early lead before Greg Ryan equalized with a superb corner-kick just before the interval. Mid way through the second half, Dave Murray put Huron ahead with a well taken 30- yard drive. The lead was short lived, however, as South West came back just minutes la-er to tie the score and close out a very exciting encounter between two well matched teams. .................................. ....... T-A pho io Second set goes July 8 Complete first round of soccer play Forest, Grand Bend, Nairn and West Williams were winners in the opening mid season tournament round of Ausable district soccer at Canner’s field, Sunday. The eight teams of the league will meet again at Nairn in games beginning at noon on Sunday, July 8. Winners of the first round games for the A-division tournament trophy. -Losers in the opener will compete for the B-division award. In last Sunday’s play, Forest beat Huron Park 3-1 on penalty-kicks taken to break a 2-2 tie unresolved after a pair of 10-minute overtime periods. In other games, Grand Bend won 4-0 over Taxan- dria; Nairn 1-0 over Exeter; and West Williams 3-2 over Lucan. Huron Park’s young goalkeeper Rich Helm played exemplary soccer in his team’s eventual loss to Forest. A loss clouded by a very doubtful goal from Forest’s Dennis Smith, which appeared to strike the underside of the crossbar and bounce down and into Helm’s arms early in the game. That goal came at seven minutes to follow the first of two by the Park’s George Eisenschink, who scored at five minutes of the first half, and at 29 minutes of the second. Eisenschink’s last goal came one minute after a scoring penalty-kick by Forest’s Mark Overholt, and sent the match into over time. Exeter Centennials’ 1-0 loss to Nairn came about in one of the better played games of the day. A fast event totally decided on a picture goal by Nairn’s Andrew Hemming at the close of the first half. tlemming hit a falling ball /?/* uvetiofiDeQ boat- TS HOT tAPCT-t AFLOAT— U> SAVE SAVE <STATION WAGON SPECIALS 1977 FORD SQUIRE WAGON Fully equipped including air con ditioning. In the closing half, it was Mennen again, and then Bill Van- denbygaart with the final tally.
