Garrett read the scripture. A reading based on the Scripture was given by Mr. W. Garrett entitled “Come as a child”. Business items were taken care of and plans made to meet for a game miniature golf on evening of July 11. Mrs. Robt. Garrett troduced the guest speaker Sgt. Bruce Shaw of the Lucan O.P.P. who spoke in connection with the theme of the meeting “The Inter­ national Year of the Child” and stressed the importance of the family and church on young children. A short question period followed. Mrs. Wilfred Garrett thanked the speaker, Mrs. John Drost assisted the hostess to serve a delicious salad plate for lunch. On June 6 four carloads of Unit (4) members travelled to Strathroy to hold the meeting at the home of former member Mrs. Wm Lambert. Mrs. Nelson Tate . presided. Congratulations are ex­ tended to Richard Riddell, on receiving his Batchelor of Science degree, for Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, on June 8 at Guelph Agricultural College, Richard has ac cepted a position with The Ganaska Regional Con­ servation Authorities at Port Hope. Following the ♦ graduation the Riddell family entertained the Graduate and his friend Miss Alexis Landon of Guelph, with dinner at the Crock and Block Restaurant in London. Sincere sympathy is ex­ tended to the family of the late Mrs. Charlotte (Har­ ness) Dann, who passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospital London, after a lengthy illness. She was in her 89th year, her husband, the late Robert Dann predeceased her in 1925. She is survived by sons Isaac of London, Gerald of Granton, and Daughter Dora, Mrs. Gordon Wilson of Waterloo. A daughter Bernice Lemon predeceased her in 1956. There are 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren surviving. The Funeral was held from the Haskett Funeral Home Lucan on Tues. June 12 with interment in Medway Cemetry. The pall bearers were Dennis Dann, Robert Dann, Gerald Newton, Donald Axford, David Thorpe and Ted Sheehan. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Gowland of Ancaster and Mr. and Mrs. Forbes Powell of Stoney Creek spent the day with their sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Summer, also visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Summers on the week-end were Mr. and Mrs. Allan MacKenzie of Scarborough and Mrs. Shelagh MacKenzie of London. Congratulations are ex­ tended to Mr. and Mrs. James Kerr, on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June 14. General U.C.W, meeting The members of General U.C.W. of Granton United Church met in the basement of the church on June 12. Mrs. Fred Cook presided and opened with a short worship Service, followed by the business session, where a number of items were discussed and taken care of. Mrs. Gordon McRobert gave a report of the highlights of the “West­ minister Week-end” held at Westminister College London where whe represented Granton U.C.W as their delegate. Unit (1) was responsible for the program, with Mrs, G. McRobert presiding, and announcing that the senior choir would entertain the members with some of their choir mumbers. Mrs. Elmers read a number of quotations on “Parents” which was to tie in with the theme of the guest speaker’s later. Mrs. McRobert introduced Don Santor from the London Board of Education who talked about his work, which was the teaching of moral values in the schools. Mr. Santor made this more impressive, by the use of a projector, illustrating the motivations of children of kindergarten to grade 4. This theme was further explored by Audience Participation” in solving a dilemma on moral values, this was done by handing a paper to each member, and asking them how they would solve the problem. Persona Is Miss Jean Riddell, Perth Home Economist, attended the Regional Conference held at Guelph Agricultural College from May 28-31. Miss Riddell also attended a training workshop in con­ nection with her work this had to do with updating programs for adult and 4 H of Admission $2.00 Alison, and Prospect Hill joined Mr. and Mrs. Mississauga Celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary, 4 H news The 2nd meeting of the 4H Club group 2 was held on June 9. The members discussed a name for the club and decided to call themselves "Fitness Freaks”. Leader Mrs. Noon showed the girls, how to press flowers, then the members went outside to prepare'for a cookout. Ann Garrett, Shanon Fiedoree and Maria Vanderminnen made two fires, Bonnie Garloff, Rhonda Mills and Evelyn Vanderminnen prepared the barbecue. Susan Noon and Brenda Tomlin made pizza using a recipe from the 4H books and Theresa McCarthy and Dawn Jenson made dough boys. Sec. and Press Reporter for this meeting was Evelyn Vanderminnen. '•* C.G.I.T Mother and Daughter Banquet The Granton C.G.I.T mother and daughter Banquet was held in the United Church Basement on June 13. The tables were attractively decorated with the C.G.I.T colours of blue and white, with a cen­ terpiece representing a circus carousal. These were made by Margaret McGuffin and Evelyn Vanderminnen. Mrs. Cook brought greeting from the U.C.W. and told the C.G.I.T. that the Granton U.C.W. had agreed to pay the registration fee for active member and leaders in the fall. The guest speaker, Robert Hardie, was in­ troduced by Kim Knapman, who in the course of her message urged the girls “to believe in themselves, believe in others, and believe in God”. Mrs. Hardie was Thanked by Bonnie Harloff, who also conducted an Elimination contest which was won by Mrs. Cook. Assistant leader Mrs. Wm Goos presented the year badge and friendship badge leader Mrs, Robt Harloff, in her remarks while presenting special awards said the members where a‘ “great Group of Girls to work with”. G.G.l.T member Shanon Fiedorec gave a short talk on her feelings on being a member of the group of girls.
