CARMEL TAKES BIKE RODEO — A bicycle rodeo sponsored by the Stephen Optimists was won by the team from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. With the winning team of Sandra Hullebusch, Caroline Conlin, Connie Kaak, Kevin Korcina, Sean O'Rourke, Kem Watson and Dave Dietrich are Ontario Provincial Constable Bill Wilson and Optimist president Bill McGrath. Many visit for anniversary Mark event at Thames Road The annual Sunday School anniversary was held Sunday with a fair crowd in attendance. The church was tastefully decorated with begonias, peonies and ferns. Rev. James Forsythe of Exeter was guest speaker. Members of the Sunday School sang several numbers under the leadership of Mrs. Reg Hodgert. Miss Agnes Bray accompanied on the organ. Misses Brenda Ballantyne and Laurel Hodgert accompanied on the piano. Rev. Forsythe had as his sermon “Playing the Game’’. Mr Ross Hargreaves gave the con­ cerns of the congregation. Larry Dawson and Lee Hodgert received the of­ fering. Among some of those attending and spending the day with relatives or friends were Mr. and Mrs. Rick Mellenger and Alicia, Hensall with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Passmore; Rev. Mr. and Mrs. David Passmore, Tom and Jon were Sunday guests with Mrs. Myrtle Metters of Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Rick Parker and Tim were Sunday supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. George Parker of Hensall. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hodgert and Alan attended the graduation at Niagara College, Welland Saturday for Miss Diane Hodgert who graduated in Travel and Tourism. At Anniversary Recently Mrs. Ross Hargreaves attended the 60th Anniversary of the Bonds Federated Farm Women Group. It is the oldest farm women’s group and is connected with the West Oxford Womens Institute. They had luncheon in Victorian Style at the newly opened Elm Hurst near Ingersol. They returned to College Avenue United Church program of remembrances. Mrs. Hargreaves reported on the Bonds display at Woodstock Fair since 1949. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Brian Smith and Jennifer, of St. Thomas spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Reg Hodgert. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Riddell, Clinton, Lt. Col Jack and Mrs. Cann of Belleville, Mrs. Isabelle Cann, Exeter, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cann and Cheryl, Mr. and Mrs. Reg Hodgert, Grant, Brenda, and Scott and the Smiths all had dinner at the Triple A Restaurant Exeter in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cann’s 10 wedding Anniversary. Mrs. Ross Hargreaves attended the 50th Anniversary of West Oxford Women’s Institute at West Oxford Community Hall. Miss Doris Elford, Mrs. William Rohde were on the Kirkton Horticulture bus trip Saturday to Sheridan Nursery Edwards Gardens, Sunnybrook Park, and Allan Gardens under glass greenhouses and Eatons Shopping Centre. They ate supper at Old Ed’s Restaurant in Toronto. Milton McCurdy is patient in St. Marys Memorial Hospital. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johns and family in the passing of their nephew and cousin the late Greg Johns, Toronto. The funeral was Monday in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hargreaves were guests for Fathers Day supper with Mr. and Mrs. Lome Hansford, London. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Lamport were in a baseball tournament in London over the week-end in connection with the Ausable River Conservation authority. Julie and Greg spent the week-end with their grand­ parents in Exeter. There will be no services Sunday June 24 owing to Elimville anniversary. Woodstock for CARE IN THE HOME COURSES Clinton man heads area teacher group By WILMAOKE At a meeting of the Huron- Perth unit of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association on Tuesday Don Farwell of Clinton was elected president, suc­ ceeding Gaetan Blanchette of Clinton. Other officers are: Sandy McQuillan, Stratford, first vice-president; Jim McDade Stratford, second vice-president; Sister Audrey Dumouchelle, Stratford, treasurer; Pat Brewer, Stratford, recording secretary; Inez Haid, Hesson, corresponding secretary; Justin Tomasule, Stratford, and Jim Steffler, Wingham, counsellors; and Adrian Pontsioen, Stratford, Board of Directors. Don Farwell outlined some of the goals of the organization this year in­ cluding continuing the public speaking where the students from the 19 schools compete for the top honours; to support a conference in Chatham sponsored by the Association of Religious Consultants of the Diocese of London; to contribute to the golf tournament for teachers in June in Mitchell; to allocate some money for professional activity programs in the coming year-to pay for speakers coming in (offering money to the board on a shared basis for this). The possibility of establishing a professional library with the board was discussed, but no decision arrived at on the matter, Farwell spoke of the im­ portance of communication among teachers, as well as between teachers, ad­ ministration and board. Anniversary at Kippen Youth anniversary ser­ vices were held in St. Andrews Church, June 10 with Rev. McMullen in charge. Junior choir provided the inspiration with several numbers under the leadership of Mrs. Gerald Moffatt and Mrs. David Cooper. Mr. & Mrs. George Sproal, Dowheiac, Michigan visited last week with Mr. & Mrs. W.L. Meilis. U.C.W. of St. Andrews Church held their regular meeting June 12. Mrs. Keith Love gave the worship on the “Fathers Day” theme. Mrs. John Anderson gave the topic, “Occupation Housewife.” It was decided to hold a bake sale at Homestead on June 3. Mrs. Harold Jones and Mrs. Wm Consitt, the hostesses served lunch. Frank Fowler Aurora visited W.L. Meilis recently.
