T-A photo Attracts over 2,000 Fiddle test successful again More than 2,000 persons were in attendance over the week end to make the ninth annual Hensall Fiddlers contest a great success. Wayne Reid who was chairman for the event for the sponsoring Hensall Kinsmen club said, “It’s hard to tell how many were there for the final Saturday night as they keep coming and going, but, it was in excess of 1,100. Preliminaries were held Friday night and Saturday afternoon.” The grand championship for the open fiddling com­ petition and the Ward Allen Memorial trophy went to Don Reed of Sudbury. The trophy was presented by Grace Bender, a niece of Ward Allen. The two runnersup in the open final were Bob Arbuckle of Stouffville and Dwight Lubiniecki from Scarboro. The ‘B’ championship was won by Willis Desjardine of Dashwood. He won a similar title in Blyth only two weeks earlier. Ellen Ruth Knapp of Ancaster was the ladies open winner and Kathy Reed, Sudbury was the 12 and under champion. Kevin Regier, Elmira took the 20 year and under title, Eugene Gilboe, Belle River won in the over 55 class and the over 70 competition was taken by Tom McQueston of King City. Pat Stackhouse of Lon- desboro was the top com­ petitor in the division. Kenneth Knight con­ ducted baptism service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday baptising Elisa Marie Masse daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Masse; Jamie Harold Neil Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Campbell; Jason Robert Vanstone, Charles Aldon Vanstone, sons of Mrs. Robt Vanstone and the late Robert Vanstone; Steven Anthony Wurm, and Matthew Donald Wurm, sons of Mr. and Mrs. C. Wurm. Rev. Knight delivered an inspiring message to the parents and congregation on “Baptism”. Flowers were placed in the church in loving memory of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stewart McQueen by their family also flowers were placed in loving memory of the late Hugh Love and Walker Carlile by their families. The service next Sunday June 24th will be cancelled that the congrega­ tion are invited to worship with Cromarty Presbyterian Church at their anniversary service at 11 a.m. The Church will be closed July 1st, 8th and 15th for holidays. Church service will be in Hensail United Church at 11 a.m. Ladies enjoy Scott's villa trip A number of Ladies from this area enjoyed a bus trip to Scott’s Villa, Aqua Lake, New York State last week­ end and report a most worthwhile trip and ex­ cellent entertainment.
