HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1979-06-20, Page 11Creditor! club gets first win of Huron-Perth season The Crediton Mets won their first game of the season in the Huron-Perth senior baseball league Sunday as they downed the Thorndale Juniors by a score of 7-5. Soccer Bullets shutout Nairn Geoff Prance and Tim Moore got goals for Exeter Bullets in a 2-0 win over Nairn in atom division soccer, June 13. Prance’s goal came at 20 minutes of the first half from a corner taken by Dale Kints. Then, at six minutes into the second, Brian Quinn centered the ball for a scoring shot by Moore. The previous Wednesday, the Bullets drew 0-0 with Taxandria. Atom division soccer opened recently jn Exeter when Exeter Bullets lost 1-0 ’ to Exeter Gunners. In that game, the Gunners’ goal was a gift when the ball rebounded off Prance ‘and into his own net. The Mets scored two runs in each of the fourth, seventh and eighth innings and Pete Glover tossed a strong game striking out 14 opposition batters. The Crediton club will meet Tillsonburg in an exhibition doubleheader this week end. They play in Ladies plan foursome Lois Snell won the low gross prize at Tuesday’s regular ladies play at the Exeter golf and country club. A total of 28 ladies participated. Low net honours were shared by Ilene Rannie and Lois Learn. The most honest golfer was Gert Beaver and the hidden hole prize went to Anne Kennedy. A ladies two ball foursome event is being held Tuesday June 26 at the Exeter golf and country club. Tee-off time is 10 a.m. followed by a smorgasbord lunch. Tillsonburg Saturday af­ ternoon at 4 p.m. and will be back in Crediton at 1:30 p.m., Sunday. The first Crediton score came in the second inning when Jean Paul Larcher walked and stole second, third and home. In the Mets fourth, Dale Dinney walked, Dan Heywood doubled and singles came from the bats of Bill Hodge and Pete Wuerth to produce two more runs. Doubles delivered by Gary Skinner and Dan Heywood were responsible for the next two Crediton tallies in the bottom of the seventh. In the eighth, Pete Wuerth drew a walk stole second and scored on a two-bagger by Dick Vanderworp. The latter came around to score as J.P. Larcher was safe on an error. Whatever Your Sport. . Next with 24 successful shots wach were Burt Mahaffey, Al Kyle, John Hessels and Dan Crerar. Lloyd Venner hit 23,’ M. Edmundson and Terry Baker scored 22 each and Larry Taylor, Elgin Kipfer and Jamie Caldwell were all even at 20. T-A photo Carroll Reiblich, co­ ordinator of the LET program for the Exeter tennis club reminds everyone that registration is continuing for the second session of lessons. Anyone wishing to register should call Randy Parsons at 235-1304. Reiblich told the TA Monday, “We are planning many special events for for the summer. These include mens and ladies nights, a junior team to c’ompete against area clubs and fun for everyone.” He suggested that the men and ladies wishing to take Page 11 part in the learning sessions should get in touch with Randy Parsons to indicate which night would be most desirable. Adult lessons will be each Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday or Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $16 for eight lessons for club members or $20 for non­ members. The club pro is hoping to establish a good solid junior program with lessons for one hour each Monday, Wed­ nesday and Friday mornings for an eight week period for $30. Wed., June 20 - 7:30 p.m. News from soccer loop Exeter Centennials lost 2-1 in Ausable district soccer at Forest, Sunday. The Centennials single was scored by right-winger Al Hern in the closing minutes of the game. All scoring occured in the second half, with Forest ahead 2-0-before Exeter tallied. League play has now halted until July 15, while the eight teams take part in a mid-season tournament. The first round of the tournament will be held at Canner’s field, Exeter beginning at 1 p.m., Sunday June 24. The team championship of Wednesday’s track and field meet for area schools of the Huron-Perth Separate School Board was won by Mount Carmel with 196 points. St. Boniface of Zurich was second with 186 points, Precious Blood of Exeter placed third with 57 points followed by Ecole Ste. Marie with 53 points. D'Jer continues at Hully Gully Excitihg motocross action took place at Hully Gully near Varna this past Sunday with the competition of the third round of the D’Jer series. In the 125 cc junior divi­ sion Mark Baxter of Port Exeter will go against Nairn. The final game of four will match Forest against Huron Park at 445 p.m. The second round of the tournament will be played at Nairn on Sunday, July 8.
