The first loss of the season came earlier in the week by a score of 5-1 to the Byron juniors, Bruijns chalked up an even dozen strikeouts while holding the Thorndale club hitless in Sunday’s seven in­ ning nightcap. He allowed only four opposition base runners. Two were on walks and another two on errors. No Thorndale runner was able to get past second base. The nifty left hander received plenty of batting power from his mates. They scored five times in the first inning and went on to bang out a total of 11 hits. Bob Hoffman, Rob Dickey and Tom Hayter provided hits to send the first inning runs across the plate. In the second frame, John Hayter singled and Dave Parsons cracked a double to account for two more runs. Tape measure blast The only Dashwood run in the 5-1 loss to Byron came in the bottom of the ninth in­ ning when Jim Guenther stroked the ball over the centre field fence. Schwartzentruber photo The Kirkton midget girls, last year’s Ontario champs opened the new season Wednesday night with a 10-4 win over Wellesley. They are competing this year in the Western Ontario Athletic Association against teams from St. Marys, Mitchell, St. Pauls and Wellesley. In the first victory, Rabbit.
