T-A photo Area kids get roles Playhouse chooses cast The suspense is over for the many youngsters who auditioned for the roles of the seven Trfcpp children in the Huron Country Playhouse production of The Sound of Music. Auditions were held in London, Goderich, and Grand Bend during April. James Murphy, artistic director of the Playhouse and director of The Sound of Music has offered roles to the following yqung people: Steve Paton, Kirkton, will play the eldest son, 14 year old Friederich; Lisa Cain. Yet to be announced is the eldest Von Trapp girl, 16 year old Liesl. Murphy said, “It was a difficult decision to reach since so many of the youngsters are talented. I think we have succeeded in getting together six talented boys and girls who can pass as a family. I’m looking forward to working with these bright young people. “Performing is,” he emphasized to the young people, “a great deal of work — 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration — as the saying goes. I hope the other children who also auditioned but who did not get parts will not be discouraged. International Year of the Child seems the appropriate time to produce a show with opportunities for children”, he said. The Sound of Music goes into rehearsal on August 6. It opens on August 22 and runs through September 1 at the Playhouse in Grand Bend. More than books at GB library branch United Church Sunday school marks anniversary A Sunday School an­ niversary was observed at the United church, Sunday morning, with the S.S. teachers and all the children joining the congregation. Children’s hymns were featured in the service. Scriptures were read by two Sunday School students. Sunday School Superin­ tendent, Mrs. Paula Taylor made presentation of Diplomas, Seals, Bibles and Special Awards. Receiving Bibles were Clark Adams, Donald Campbell, Tina Lamb, John Lupton, Steven Mathers and Debbie Sawyer. The second anthem was sung by all the junior S.S. children of action hymns and songs learned in S.S. A guest story-teller, Mrs. Sandra Schott, of Centralia, told an interesting story about a little boy named Barney who lived in a barrel behind a store because he had no home. Two men of the congregation carried in a large wooden barrel, out of which popped a live little boy during the story. Rev. H. meditation was on “Suffer little children.” that the church can be a generation away from ex­ tinction’’, and urged Christians to speak out. Receiving Special Awards at this service for work in the Sunday School and nursery were Jap Kobe, Ann Russell, Shellie Meecham, Janet Allis ter, Donna Lovie and Sharon Miller. Guest speaker was Mrs. Ger brig Berman, from the Needle and Eye store, London, who gave a history on needlepoint, blocking, samples and stitches. Leaders of the clubs were presented badges by Home Economist Miss Grace Bird. Moore’s He told us Grand Bend Public Library is welcoming back many of its regular summer visitors. Librarian Bess Knight hopes to have special programs for children this summer, as well as in­ teresting displays for visitors. Assistant librarian Adele Andrews-Chapman says that the influx of summer visitors balances with the students who use it in winter to give the library year round ac­ tivity. The library is located on the lower floor of Grand Bend Public School. The library is one of 24 branches in Lambton county system. They have many books and services on hand and many more that can be ordered in advance. Video tapes on such topics as sewing or travel are an hand and can be viewed at the library. “Talking books’’ or tapes of books can be ordered for the blind. Books in different languages are featured regularly. On hand now are a selection of German, Dutch and French books. There are also large print books for those who have difficulty seeing. A special feature of the library is a selection of sewing patterns available for borrowing. Regular Young People Meet Twelve young people met Tuesday evening at the United Church. Rev. H. Moore read scripture and conducted a personality quiz, followed by discussion, Paula Taylor supplied two games in the social period. One was birthday musical chairs and guessing whose picture was pinned on the back of each person. The librarians can order books that they don’t have on hand from the other bran­ ches. Ms Andrews-Chapman says that many part time university students have taken advantage of this plan. The library is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 2-5, and 7-9. They are also open Saturday 1-5. Notice Citizen's committee is being formed to plan for the development of the Grand Bend Recreational Property (previously the Patterson property). During the week of May 20 to 26. the Pinery Park Detachment of the'Ontario Provincial Park laid 120 charges under the Provin­ cial Park§; Act. and 108 charges under the Liquor Licence Act. Four charges were laid under the Narcotic Control Act. two impaired drivers were charged, and eight charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act. The Pinery detachment also investigated three criminal code charges. Grand bend detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police charged seven .people under the Liquor Licence Act and one-person for im­ paired driving. Six criminal code occurrences were in­ vestigated.
