The CAHA approved the elimination of body checking for the younger divisions at their recent meeting at London and it is expected the Ontario Minor Hockey Association will vote on the matter at their annual meeting in September. The Shamrock league, in which Exeter teams com pete, have named a special committee to prepare a brief to present to the OMHA annual in which they will outline the league's op position to the elimination of. body checking, On the committee are Dave Grant, Lambeth; Jim Dalton, Strathroy; Jim Draper, OMHA rep; and Larry Brown, Dorchester. At the meeting held in Lucan, the league agreed to encourage centres to have their full voting delegation ast the OMHA annual. In opposing the move to eliminate body checking in the lower age levels, several members noted that players would resort to sticks to stop opposing players if they couldn’t body check. Some of the veteran members said they had never seen young players seriously injured with a clean body check and felt such a rule would be most difficult for referees to assess. At the same time, the Shamrock league will en courage member centres to oppose a move whereby the slap shot will be returned to all levels. Last year, it was banned in pee wee and un der. Members said kids were starting to learn how to shoot properly with the ban on slap shots and want it continued at the three lower age levels. It was also decided that in the coming season, all minor games in Shamrock will consist of one 10-minute and two 15-minute periods. The minimums in midget and juvenile will be three 15- minute periods. Members were of the opinion that the previous minimum of three 10-minute periods did not give kids enough ice time in view of the mounting cost travelling, particularly teams that carry a allotment of players. Six of them came at him off excellent wing and central passing com binations that seemed to baffle Exeter in the first half. In the second, Grand Bend used the same com binations to push through Exeter drives in an attempt to level the score. The Centennials play away again next Sunday against Taxandria.
