FRED BOWDEN The Christian Family was the subject chosen by Mr. Paul Schott for the Mother’s Day service in the United Church on Sunday morning and thoughts were based on the text “Who is my Mother and who are my brothers.” When we become Christians we belong to the family of God and this makes us a big family. The church was really the founding of the Christian family. Those who accept Christ are joined together in an Eternal fellowship that makes us all brothers and sisters. The joy of Mother’s Day and the tribute we pay to our Mother should be extended to all Mothers to make the day A Christian Family Day. The children’s story was told by Mrs. Schott and the music for the service was provided by a ladies choir, Mr. & Mrs. Ken Greb were visitors over the May 5th week end and Mr. & Mrs. Wayne Greb and family were Sunday visitors with Mrs. Ken Greb’s mother, Mrs. Amos Smith, in Mount Albert, Mr. & Mrs. Les Brown and family, Barrie spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Lobb and Mrs. Kirk Lyndon and Christopher, Goderich were Sunday visitors., Mrs. Minnie Harrison was a Sunday visitor with Mr. & Mrs. Ray Harrison. Debbie Harrison, London spent the week end with her parents. Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Hirtzel were guests for Mother’s Day at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Bill Hirtzel and family in Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins and Mr. & Mrs. Fred Bowden were in Toronto over the week end attending the 37th annual dinner of the Canada Packers Quarter Century Club at the Sheraton Centre. On the way home Sunday they called on Mr. & Mrs. Keith Hodgins and family in Mrs. Lloyd Jaques and Mrs. June Robinson at­ tended the “Women Alive” convention at Waterloo University for the weekend. Mr. & Mrs. Norris Webb visited on Saturday with Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Webb and family of London and Mr. & Mrs. Doug Webb and family of Point Clarke on Sunday. The Kirkton-Woodham Young People had charge of the church service on Sun­ day morning. A number from the community attended the play “Oklahoma” in St. Marys last week. IRVIN RADER On Sunday, Calvary United Church Women were in charge of the service for the 66th anniversary of the U.C.W. Mrs. Gordon Bender, president, presided and ushers were Mrs. Clayton Merner and’Mrs. Hugh Boyle. Mrs. Ann Marie Hoffman sang two solos. Guest speaker was Rev. Orville James of McAdam, New Brunswick. He was well known to many as he resided in Dashwood as a boy. He also spoke during Sunday School and met many old friends during a luncheon that followed. He was ac­ companied by his wife, Nancy. Calvary United Church women held their May meeting Tuesday, May 8 with the World Outreach group in charge under the leadership of Mrs. Mildred Kellerman who read a poem “Where things go Wrong.” “Faith of Our Mothers” was sung. Mrs. E.R. Guenther read the Scripture followed by prayer by Mrs. Clayton Merner. Mrs. Kellerman introduced the guest speaker Mrs. Irene Kennedy of Grand Bend who spoke on “Human Rights in Canada.” She was thanked by Mrs. Merner plant. Mothers, daughters supper Zion Lutheran Ladies’ Aid held their May meeting at the community centre Wednesday. It was the an­ nual pot luck mother and daughter supper. There were 28 members and 55 guests present. Mrs. Hilda Rader proposed a toast to the daughters replied to by Judy Mellecke with a toast to the mothers. Group three with Mrs. Esther Salmon convener was in charge and several prizes were awarded. Oldest mother, Mrs. Margaret Nadiger; youngest daughter, Shelley Miller; mother with the most daughters, daughters-in-laws, and granddaughters, Mrs. Adolph Keller-; daughters with most mothers, grand­ mothers and great-- grandmothers, Elise and Michele Vandeworp. A group of daughters sang several numbers. Brenda Rader played hbr ukulele. Carol Rader played a piano solo. Kathy and Karen Keller played their ukuleles. Jayne Hayter sang a solo ac­ companied by Joanne Maguire. Mrs. Lome Genttner, president, dealt with the business. The Altar Guild reported 26 calls. The new Guild is Mrs. Freida Keller and Mrs. Hilda Rader. The Aid is very grateful to all who donated tea towels especially the estate of the late Louis Restemayer who donated 15 towels. A stove donated by Ruth Denomme was accepted. Mrs. Harold Schroeder displayed one of the confirmation gowns she is making. Group 1 is in charge of the program for the birthday party at the Blue Water Rest Home in June. Mrs. Ron Merner assisted by Margaret Merner showed pictures of their trip to Greece and displayed souvenirs. Personals Brenda Miller, Zion, spent Wednesday evening with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader and ac­ companied her grandmother to the Mother and Daughter supper. Mrs. Jean Walper has returned home following two weeks in London with Mr. & Mrs. Stan Slezak and family. Mr. & Mrs. Ray Rader attended the “Lily of the Valley” Ball -at centennial hall, London, Saturday evening May 12. Their niece, Miss Katherine Rader, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Earl Rader was presented as a debutante at the ball. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Miller and girls Zion, were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader.
