HomeMy WebLinkAboutTimes-Advocate, 1979-05-16, Page 7w Afternoon Unit plan for fall fair The beautiful warm weather Tuesday, brought a goodly number of ladies to the Afternoon meeting of the Exeter U.C.W. Mrs. M, Dearing, opened with a poem, “Kindness is Strong.” Business followed. It was decided to enter a number of articles in com petition at Exeter Fall Fair. The Evening Unit are taking a bus trip June 11, and we were invited to join them. Mrs. R. Batten read a letter from the Leprosy Mis sion expressing appreciation for used stamps, and telling of the various ways in which the money derived from the sale of them, assisted in carrying on their work. Mrs, Earl Russell was in charge of the program. Following a poem, “The Miracle of May”, she was assisted by two member of the Evening Unit, Mrs. Wayne Tuckey and Mrs. M. Cudmore, who shared the reading of “The Keepers of the Springs”. A follower - up of the old story pointed out the tremendous responsibility that women have as Keepers of the Springs in providing a proper home-life and teaching needed by children. In our modern society, too many are growing up to be physically perfect, mental ly intellectual, but religious ly-Pagan. Mrs. James Forsythe sang a solo in keeping with the program. She was accom panied by Mrs. A Willard. Mrs. Ken Langforcl gave a splendid talk concerning Mothers, and Family Life, and the need to make home life a loving, happy ex perience, never to be forgotten by its members. She emphasized that folks of all age - groups have a cer tain influence over young people. Children should be made to feel an important part of the home, should be challenged to strive for ex cellence in everything, and most important of all, should be taught a Faith by which to live. Our lives should reflect those prin ciples which we attempt to teach others. We were then permitted to listen-in to a conversation when Marjorie Tuckey call ed to see Thelma Russell one afternoon. Thelma was pondering over the bad things taking place all around us, and fearing for her grandchildren’s future. She began to recall things as they were in her childhood, and together they compared the different aspects of todays modern ways. Marjorie’s comment "Isn’t it great to be living these days?” seemed to help restore Thelma’s faith in the future, and she concluded by reading a poem, “Mother Love”.
