The students were allowed to choose which businesses they wanted to visit, and were divided into groups of two, three or four. Some children chose to go to the various banks in Exeter, while others toured such places as grocery stores, restaurants, and building supply stores. Some pupils even went to the animal clinic. Mrs. Ottewell says that there are sevreal reasons why this year’s geography class decided to visit the town’s businessmen. Because it is the “Year of the Child”, she thought this was a good way to bring children and adults together. Arrangements were easy to make because it is a small class, and Mrs. Ottewell says this class is very nice. She could trust their manners while they were visiting, she says. She told the pupils that courtesy is very important, because they “represent not just the school, but all youth.” Mrs. Ottewell says that the townspeople have been very good about giving the students a tour of their shops, and explaining what goes on. The students have to give an oral and written report when they get back to class. Mt. Carmel ladies elect The May meeting of the Mt Carmel C.W.L. was well attended.
