Mrs. Eben Weigand, president, dealt with the business. Twenty-two an­ swered the roll call by paying their dues. There was one visitor. Mrs. Ray Rader reported that a grant for the playground was requested but to date no word was official. Achievement Day will be May 5 at Stephen Central School. Tickets for the play, “The Owl and the Pussy Cat” are being bought from the Country Playhouse. The Exeter fair list for Institutes was discussed. Summary Day for the Needlepoint course is May 23. The District Annual will be held May 17 at Thames Road United church. Block event is scheduled By LYNNE FARQUHAR A Block Parent meeting will be held this Wednesday April 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Huron Park Annex. Anyone who is or would like to become a Block Parent from Huron Park or the village of Centralia should attend. Bring the kids along. Bill Wilson of the OPP will be on hand to give the presentation along with a film entitled “Where Can You Run”. Constable Wilson was at J. A. D. McCurdy School Wednesday making a Block Parent presentation to the school youngsters so that they are aware of what the Block Parent sign means to them when they are in need of assistance. Anyone who cannot attend the meeting but still wishes to become a Block Parent should call the Resource Centre at 228-6302 or drop by the office behind the Huron Park Post Office and pick up the application forms. The Opti-Mrs. will be holding “Card Parties’’ every second Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Huron Park Annex, starting Tuesday April 10. Everyone is welcome to attend and amission is 75c per person. Refreshments will be served and prizes are awarded for high cribbage hand and men’s and women’s high-low and most lone hands in euchre. A parenting meeting will be held at the McCurdy School in the nursery rooms, 16 and 17, on Tuesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. Kathy Pryde and John Penn from Family and Children’s services will be present to lead the discussion. Everyone is welcome. Moms; don’t forget to save your Zehr’s cash register tapes for the Stephen Co-op Nursery. The tapes are redeemable for cash and can be saved for special equipment for the nursery. You can drop the tapes off at the nursery school or the Resource Centre. With snow on the ground, again, it’s hard to get into “spring baseball fever” but we are asking that anyone who is interested in coaching or helping out with T-ball, girl’s softball or boy’s hardball please contact the Stephen Resource Centre at 228-6302. T-A photo Farewell for Crediton lady, may cancel Bible school By MRS. PETER MARTIN CREDITON A farewell party was held recently for Mrs. Eleanor Oestricher at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmar Wein. Mrs. Oestricher was presented with a small remembrance from her neighbours and a social afternoon was enjoyed by everyone. Mrs. Oestricher has taken up residence in Exeter. u.c.w. The United Church Women of Zion Church held their regular meeting, Thursday. Devotions were presented by Edith Gill, Irene Schlenker and Helen Ratz. Mrs. Gill read a meditation on the life of Jesus. A hymn was sung. Mrs. Joyce Preszcator accom­ panied the singing. Mrs. Schlenker read several scripture verses Isaiah 9:2, Luke 2:52 and Matthew 22:1- 10. Doris Swartz sang a lovely solo entitled “I believe in a Hill Called Mount Calvary”. Mrs. Gill read a delightful story entitled “3 Donkeys”. Mrs. Ratz read Prose and Poems of Easter. Mrs. Evelyn Pickering, president opened the business with a prayer for guidance and safety. The roll call was answered by nineteen members. Minutes were read. A letter from Rev. Stairs was read and it was decided to invite him to the October meeting. The treasurers report was given. Mrs. Wein reported for Mrs. Hendrick that 9822 stamps were sent away. Mrs. Hendrick would like eye glasses, lenses or frames by Easter so they can be sent away. The manse committee reported that Rev. Oestricher had inspected the vacant manse and gave some suggestions for im­ provements. Mrs. Marie Fydenchuk reported on Literature and World Outreach. She read letters from Herdy Ruru and Yusrinayati Timer and showed the pictures of them sent to us. Mrs. Fydenchuk then read a letter from Lil Dixon, a missionary who is involved with the boat people of Taiwan. Men starve to death in order to give more food to their families. The meeting closed with prayer. Lunch was served, by Marie Fydenchuk, Doris Swartz and Marguerite Finkbeiner. Committee meet* A brief meeting of the Christian Education Com­ mittee of Zion United Church was held Sunday. New literature was ordered and a treasurer’s report given. A speaker for Children’s Day was discuss­ ed with some suggestions made as to whom we might contact. Vacation Bible School was discussed and tabled. If no response is given it will have to be cancelled for this year. To show the ladies apprecia­ tion, Anne Cottel presented the instructors, Mrs. Pauline Finkbeiner and Mrs. Alma Davey with their birthday cup and saucer. A social time and pot luck lunch was enjoyed by all. Projects for summary day are to be in the hands of Mrs. Finkbeiner or Davey by May 19. Personals Paul Wein was among many South Huron District High School students who spent the weekend in Ot­ tawa. The grade 10 History classes of Mrs, Golding and Mr. Hogan travelled to the capital city to see the many historic and modern points of interest. Easter Sunday at Zion United Church, Jim Fitzgerald from London will bring the Easter message and special music will be supplied by Bob Heylood. Miss Linda Pierce, Mount Bridges visited with Mr. and Mrs. Peter Martin and girls, Sunday. VISIT DELAYED The visit of Rev. Ken Campbell of Rennaisance International has been delayed a month. He will now be here on Wednesday, May 2, at 8 p.m. and the Clinton Christian Reformed School, not April 4 as originally reported. Mr. Campbell has led a group of concerned parents who want certain books removed from the curriculum of schools because of alleged obsenities and have succeeded in getting “The Diviners’* removed from the classrooms in Huron County high schools. The fine job done by the many fire depart­ ments in preventing further loss of buildings is com­ mendable. The use of Calvary United Church as a place of worship shows that Christianity is still the back bone of this community. Youth move sunrise service The Youth of Zion Lutheran church held their meeting at Lisa Miller’s home Sunday, April 1. Eleanor Salmon opened it with a prayer followed by Bible reading by Daniel Mellecke and Eleanor. Everyone went swimming in Miller’s pool and several water games were enjoyed. Business followed.
