T A photo Area suffers in storm Clandeboye horse wins honor UCW hear about India, Elimville Wl host euchre CLANDEBOYE Mary and Wilmer Scott were in Windsor Monday night to attend the awards banquet at the Windsor Raceway. Their horse, Midnite Jeff was named, Green Pacer of the Year at the Windsor Raceway. Congratulations! Willy Feke had the misfortune to break his leg while playing hockey in the recreational league Friday night. He is in University Hospital until, at least, Wednesday. Dr. C. H. George, London was a Tuesday visitor with Mr. and Mrs. Art Hodgins. Sam Taylor,Swift Current, Saskatchewan was a visitor last week with the Scott families. George Hindmarsh un­ derwent surgery, Friday at University Hospital. Debbie Manders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Manders and a student at St. Patricks School, Biddulph, par­ ticipated in the Science Fair, held at Fanshawe College, London, Saturday and Sunday. Her project was “Static Electricity.” Although Debbie didn’t win a prize in the 241 exhibits in competition, everyone participating received a bronze medallion. Ruth and Alan Hill returned home Tuesday from a holiday in Florida. The volunteer canvassers for the Cancer Society in this area will be calling on you this month. Please be generous. The spring storm with its very high winds and snow squalls Thursday night and most of Friday, left many people in this area, without hydro until Saturday af­ ternoon. Eleanor and Dave Kestle arrived home last week from a two month holiday in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Williams, Tonya and Shane, Lobo, Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCombs, John, Janet and Jeff, Elginfield, were Sun­ day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Williams. A.C.W. Meets The A.C.W. of St. James Anglican church met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Ruth Mains. The president, Mrs. Jim Cunningham led the devotions. A reading on “Faith” was given by Mrs. Roy Cunningham and a poem, ‘ Spending Your Day the Happiest Way,” was read by Mrs. Isobel Simpson. During the business, plans were discussed for redecorating the church basement. The A.C.W. catered for the lunch following the funeral on Tuesday of the late Mrs. Edna Gertrude (O’Neil) Phillips, a former resident of this area before her marriage. UCW The U.C.W. of Clandeboye United Church held their April meeting at the home of Mrs. Gerald Lynn. The president, Mrs. Chas. Coughlin was in charge. Mrs. Ralph Lynn took the devotions which was based on the year of the child, after which the ladies voted to sponsor a child in Haiti for this year. An emblem and motto was decided on for the banner to be made and hung in the church depicting the year of the child. Plans for the Regional of which Clandeboye U.C.W. are hosts May 14 were discussed as well as plans for the shower and wedding dinner for Bonnie Richards. Mrs. Jerry Grubb opened the meeting with a poem “Spring." Everyone joined in singing the hymn “Guide Me, 0 Thou Great Jehovah.” Mrs. Grubb read an article on the author of the hymn. Mrs. Grubb introduced the speaker, Joan Allen, a member of the congregation, who has spent some time in India working in missions and hospitals. Joan had a very in­ teresting story to tell and a number of photos on display. Mrs. Dan Coward thanked her on behalf of the members present. The offering was received. Mrs. Coward conducted a Bible quiz in a very interesting way. President Mrs. Gilbert Johns opened the business part of the meeting with a poem “Decorations.” The roll call was answered by a verse on spring. An in­ vitation from Kirkton United Church Women was ac­ cepted for April 11. It was decided to send a delegate to Westminister and Alma College. The used postage stamps are to be in to Mrs. Ina Johns by June 1. Two Easter lilies will be bought for the church for the Easter season. Joan Allen will show her slides of India at a family night at Elimville church April 29th. A social time followed. W.l. Euchre The Elimville Women’s Institute held their last euchre of the season with a pot luck supper preceding the euchre. This was enjoyed by all attending. The winners were - ladies high, Geraldine Grimmick; mens high, Floyd Cooper; ladies lone, Eva Beckett; mens lone, Lawrence Beckett;ladies low, Blanche Johns; mens low, Clarence Switzer. Personals The Elimville United Church Women catered to the Rebekah banquet at the Thames Road Church. The banquet was in honor of District Deputy President Kathleen Cuthill of Seaforth.
