The home team started out with a 5-0 win over Huron Park in the tourna­ ment opener on Friday night. Dave Stevens paced the attack with a pair of tallies, while Jamie Suplat, ‘Jason Turner and Scott j Regier added the singles. i Stevens scored another | pair in the second game as ■ Zurich came back from a one-goal deficit to nip Parkhill 2-1 in overtime. Blyth jumped into a two- goal lead in the final, but Stevens whittled the lead to one in the second and then sent the game into overtime with his third consecutive two-goal performance. The tournament hosts then won midway through the first overtime when Stevens . set up John Parke for the winning tally. i The Exeter Waxers, made up of local houseleague players and the six and seven-year-olds from the regular team, dropped a 4-1 verdict to Monkton in their opener. David Josephson was the lone goal scorer with Graham Arthur picking up the assist. Exeter Ball Assc. Fee Structure That loss sent them into the “B” division hunt and their next encounter was with Hensail. Exeter scored three unanswered goals in the final half of the game to overcome a deficit and win 4-2. Robbie Taylor scored Hensall’s first goal, and after Jamie Oke knotted the count, Brian Moir scored for Hensall to give them a 2-1 margin. B. J. Batten scored the equalizer in the second on a play with Jarett Kobe and Alan Blommaert while Oke scored the winner on an un­ assisted effort in the third. Batten came back with his second of the game to pull the contest out of reach. Scoring was fast and furious in the opening minutes of the “B” cham- pionship tilt between Exeter and Huron Park. B. J. Batten gave Exeter a lead at the 42 second mark after taking a pass from Jeff Chipchase, while Larry Lewis upped the margin to two when he connected on a long shot only 17 seconds later as it appeared the Waxers would run away with things. However, Huron Park came back at the 2:30 mark on a goal by Mike Conlan and the teams couldn’t find the scoring range after that as the play raced from one end to the other in an ex­ citing tilt. In their other outing, Huron Park slipped past Mitchell by a 1-0 count, with Willie Hoover scoring the only goal of the game. Hensall’s other contest resulted in a 5-1 loss to Bly th. Scoring for the losers was Scott Bell. Jamie Oke was selected as Exeter’s outstanding player in the team’s second con­ test. Huron Counties Kubota Dealer The Lucan juveniles en­ joyed a very successful weekend and are back on even terms in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association *C’ final. After losing the first two games in Colborne a week earlier by scores of 7-4 and 8- 3 the Irish bounced back t’o win two games on home ice at the Lucan arena. Saturday night Lucan eked out a 2-1 victory in overtime and then roared back with a decisive 4-1 win Sunday afternoon. The toss of the coin was won by Lucan and the fifth game of the best-of-seven series will be played at the Lucan arena Good Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. The sixth game will go in Colborne Sunday afternoon and if a seventh contest is necessary it will be back in Lucan, Saturday, April 21. Saturday’s contest was exciting and closely con­ tested from start to finish. Each team scored in a space of 50 seconds early in the second period and thats the way the score remained until four minutes and 40 seconds of a 10 minute overtime period. Brian Murray fired the successful shot on a three- way combination with Paul Medd and Jeff Hartman to send the large and en­ thusiastic crowd of Lucan fans home happy. Kyle Pederson counted the second period Lucan marker with assists going to Martin Clarke and Tom McGorman Early in &e second period at 1.37. Brian Murray gave Lucan a Pete Williams, knotted the ■ commanding lead with two count for Colborne at 2.27. Sunday’s game was only a minute and a half old when Jim Potter put Colborne ahead 1-0 on the scoreboard. Lucan turning a strong offensive game came close on many occasions but couldn’t get the equalizing goal until the clock wound down to 40 seconds left in the first period. Paul Medd was the tying marksman on a good passing play started by Bob Latta and Martin Clarke. With a minute to go and Colborne going to the attack with six forwards, Lucan defenceman Bob Hodgins stole the puck and fired it down the ice into the empty net.
