The evening began with a bountiful beef dinner prepared and served Caven church ladies by vice-president Mrs. Glenn Stewart. Mrs. Arthur Rundle looked after signing present and past members. Mrs. Harry Dougall, president of Hurondale W.I. welcomed the ladies assisted guest book. Following dinner everyone was entertained with a slide presentation of South and East Africa by John Conroy who has travelled extensively throughout the world. The meeting was attended by Perth-Huron residents including board members, nursing staff, members from government agencies such as Home Care and a local Homemaking agency, and other guests from the public sector. The Board of Directors was pleased to announce that the V.O.N. fee schedule will remain at $12.25 per visit with some individual flexibility as for 19(78 and the source of payment for 1978 was as follows: Home Care, Perth 9,331 visits; H. N.S.A., Huron, 16; Private I, 099; Huron 59; Dept, of Veteran’s Affairs, 118; Insurance, 53; Contract (Paramedicals) 59; Newly elected officers for 1979include: President, W.J. Brooks;_ 1st vice president, 2nd vice Elsie Seaforth. Anyone can request the services of a V.O.N. nurse by phoning the 24 hour an­ swering service at 357-3210, Wingham, and 482-3447, Clinton. Mrs. John Pym introduced the head table guests and life members. A sing song was held between courses led by Mrs. Oke and Mrs. Wm Dougall with Miss Ann Brodie on piano. Mrs. James Kirkland introduced the speaker for the evening. Mrs. Clarence Diamond of New Hamburg who praised the group for their many achievements over the past60yearsin keep­ keep up their good work for Home and Country. Mrs. Roylance Westcott thanked the speaker. It was also Mrs. Diamonds bir­ thday and all sang Happy Birthday. Mrs. Wm Rowcliffe gave a humorous reading “The telephone”, Mrs. Bruce Cann sang solos ac­ companied by Mrs. Fink- beiner on the piano. Greetings from FWIO Mrs. Wm chairman, Hiepleh; district president, Mrs. James Drummond. Mrs. Alvin Moir and Mrs. Arthur Rundle gave the Hurondale History from the forming of the group to the present day, its many achievements and un­ dertakings over the past 60 years. Mrs. Wm Sims and Mrs. Wm Kernick gave in memoriams. A momenta silence was observed for departed members. The evening closed with cutting of the birthday cake by Mrs. Emery Gaiser one of the first members and pianist. All repeated the Mary Stewart collect. The couple was married March 20, 1929 at the home of the bride's parents, near Hensall. Mrs. Passmore was the former Rose Moir. They have lived their entire married life on the family farm of Lot 12, NTR Concession, Usborne township. Although only two mothers took advantage of an afternoon off to go bowling, 83 youngsters at­ tended the movies held at the Stephen Resource Centre. A presentation on “Child Abuse” was given by Kathy Pryde of Family and Children’s Services at the Huron Park Annex Tuesday. The presentation sponsored by the Opti-Mrs., generated a lot of discussion toward parental problems and the group decided that they would like to meet once a month to discuss “being a parent.” The group will be meeting again Tuesday April 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the McCurdy School. (Stephen Nursery Rooms 16 and 17). Everyone is welcome to come and join the meeting. A ceramics meeting was held Tuesday March 27 at the Resource Centre. The group was given a demonstration on pouring, trimming and baking their home ceramics. The group also ordered supplies and molds. Anyone who could not attend the meeting but is still interested in starting ceramics should call Lynne at the Resource Centre, before Friday at 228-6302 and give your order for supplies and molds. Anyone who has not filled out and returned their Block Parents application forms should please do so before Friday as they are being sent in then. The Stephen Nursery School is asking all Moms to save their cash register tapes from Zehrs as they can be redeemed for cash or merchandise to go toward nursery school equipment. Moms can drop off their cash, register tapes at the nursery school or the Resource Centre. Keep watching this column for more news on upcoming programs and events.
