Trim, uncluttered lines for fashionable guys
MiPut your best face forward
this spring by taking a look back
at the 1940’s.
That’s the word from the Gil
lette Appliance Division, mak
ers of skin care appliances, who
looked to one of the country’s
top make-up experts to find how
feminine complexions are fac
ing up to fashion’s retro look as
they turn the other cheek to win
ter this year.
In vogue for spring are the
bright red lips of the post-war
years but overall, the natural
look of the 70’s completion
prevails, reported Chicago cos
metologist Judith Gordon in an
interview with Gillette.
Make-up colors, Gordon
forecasts, will be clear and
bright so that a healthy glowing
skin shows through.
Make-up fashions change
with the season, and so does
skin care. As winter’s dryness
changes to spring’s humidity,
complexions follow suit so skin
care should be altered accord
ingly.
No matter what the skin type,
from dry to oily, indoor heat and
harsh wind necessitate extra
moisturizing of skin during win
ter.
For spring, Gordon explains,
dry skin types should use
creams less rich in emollients
and change from tissue-off
cleanser to a water soluble prod
uct.
Oily skin, too, needs stronger
treatment in the spring* mean
ing a return to astringents after
cleansing, and a water-based
foundation.
To make the change from
dull, dry winter skin to a healthy
spring glow, today’s skin care
appliances help lift winter dol
drums by providing an ego
boosting, good-feeling skin
treatment.
Look for types that are
EASE INTO SPRING by treating your skin to care that
smooths away winter’s dull, dry effects. Today’s skin care
appliances gently cleanse and stimulate skin all over, such as
Gillette’s Body Tender that can be used right in the bath or
shower. It offers six attachments, like the pumice stone for
buffing elbows, knees and heels, plus cleansing brushes for
face and body and more for nail care.
immersible so they can be used
right in the shower or bath.
Attachments, too, are impor
tant, such as a soft facial cleans
ing brush, an all-over body
brush to slough off old skin
cells, a buffer and moisturizer
applicator to complete a top-to-
toe beauty routine. For exam
ple, Gillette’s Body Tender fits
easily in the hand for use in
water or out and will gently
rotate its six attachments to
cleanse and stimulate.
Healthy skin turns fashion
ably pretty this spring with new
makeup colors and tips, advises
Gordon. First, foundation
should match the skin tone,
even as skin changes color in the
sun. For proper blending, test
colors on the jawline or neck.
Eyes and lips grab attention
this spring while cheeks go soft
er and cheekbone contouring
tones down. Eye shadows of
violet, mauve or coppery brown
coupled with smudged peneil
liner underneath the eye lights
up eyes for spring, Gordon
says.
The new “naturally made-up
look’’ is complete with lips of
clear, bright red or creamy pink
color that allows natural lip
tones to shine through. Harsh
outlining is passe, says Gordon,
so for spring, lips take defini
tion from a soft pencil outline in
.pinky-brown or light auburn.
By taking a new look at sjun
care and make-up this spring,
women will be entering a new
season and fashion era with a
fresh, healthy look back to the
forties.
WATCHING THEIR WAISTLINES . . . The fashion-conscious man knows casual pants this
spring will have trim, uncluttered lines with subtle detailing usually focused at the waist. He’ll
pull a few strings in the slacks, at left, designed by Wildfire from Levi’s Sportswear in Cone Mills
polished cotton—they sport a drawstring waistband. The straight leg jeans, at right, were
designed by Bennet Brothers in Cone Mills denim and have an elasticizcd waistband for extra
comfortable fit.
