assist going to Ron Funston
but Phil Petrie counted for
Goderich only 11 seconds
later to again knot the count.
Ron Funston registered
the next two Centralia goals
to ensure the victory. He
converted a pass from Matt
Muller at 8:52 and scored
what proved to be the
winner with six minutes left
on a three-way effort with
Rick Funston and Bill
Hodge.
Barry Bloch scored for
Goderich with four minutes
to go to narrow the margin.
The Merchants sent six at
tackers on the ice in the dy
ing moments in an attempt
to get the equalizer but with
23 seconds left, Randy
Funston sent the puck into
the empty Goderich net.
Goderich took 18 of the 29
penalties handed out by
referees Irv Ford and Jeff
O’Brien.
The Marauders took ad
vantage of the Goderich
penalties scoring three
times when they had a one
man advantage.
Another close one
Centralia’s Thursday
night win over Hensall also
came in a close and very ex
citing contest.
The only goal of the first
period was counted by Rick
Funston of Centralia on a
combination with Matt
Muller and Mark Cronyn.
Each team scored* three
times in the second 20
minutes of play and the
Marauders were able to
maintain their one goal
edge.
Ron Funston scored all
three goals for the
Marauders. Matt Muller
picked up three assists and
Mark Cronyn and Pete
Wuerth each helped on one
score.
Brian Campbell counted
the first Hensall goal with
assists going to Bill
Chipchase and Fred
Campbell.
The next shot was
triggered by Rick Ingram on
a play originated by Al
Taylor and Jim Ferguson
while Centralia was a man
short and Bill Chipchase hit
the mark on passing help
from Fred and Brian
Campbell.
Ron Funston notched his
fourth of five goals at 11:35
of the third period on an un
assisted effort. It proved to
be the winner.
Gary Koehler notched the
final Hensall goal with six
minutes left on passes from
Rick Ingram and Wayne
Corbett but their hopes end
ed with six seconds left
when Ron Funston scored
into an empty net.
Only one goal was scored
during the 17 penalties call
ed by referees Don Appleby
and Jeff O’Brien. It was
Hensall’s second goal in the
second period when Rick
Funston of the Marauders
was off for tripping.
