Mrs. Harvey Hyde presiding and welcomed those attending. Spiritual Growth and voices of Africa were the theme of the program. Mrs. Hyde opened with the meditation and prayer. The hymn Kum Ba Yah was sung. Mrs. H. Parker and Mrs. Jack- Brintnell of Chiselhurst United Church read Scrip­ tures and Responsive reading followed by prayer. Mrs. Harvey Moir and Mrs. Don Volland of the Arnold Circle evening Auxiliary read Scriptures. Mrs. Audrey Christie of the Hensall United Church read scripture passages and in­ troduced the guest speaker Rev. T. Garnet Husser who gave an outstanding message on the growth in Knowledge, Growth in Faith, Growth in Hope and Growth in Love. Responsive readings were led by members from Hensall United Church namely Mrs. Grace Drummond, Rodger Venner, McAllister, Mrs. Mrs. Mrs. Ian Ron Mock and Mrs. Gerstenkorn. Mrs. Malcolm Dougall and Mrs. Edith Bell favoured with a piano duet. Mrs. Hyde ex­ pressed thanks to Rev. Husser and all who took part. The meeting concluded with prayer and the Lord’s Prayer in unison, Set social place Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Garnet Husser conducted Communion Service in Hensall United Church on Sunday. The choir sang the anthem “O Come let Us Sing Unto the Lord” under the direction of Mrs. Marianne McCaffrey with Dr. Ralph Topp ac­ companying at the organ. Mr. Oesch has been a resident for several months. Eighty-seven guests signed the guest book. Mrs. Oesch wore a rose corsage and Mr. Oesch a rose bou- tonniere.Cake,tea and coffee were served. Mrs. Eric Luther conducted Church service on Tuesday with Louise Mitchell at the piano. Hensall had appeared to win Friday’s game when Brian Campbell scored with a minute and a half left in the first 10 minute overtime period. The goal was disallowed and Campbell assessed a two minute penalty when it was found he was using an il­ legal stick. The game resumed and was scoreless for the balance Of the first period of extra play. With three minutes and 35 seconds gone in the next overtime session, captain Ron Funston converted a pass from Mark Cronyn to clinch the victory for the Marauders. The game was a see-saw affair from start to finish with first one club and then the other taking the lead. The first period ended in a 2-2 tie. The Marauders went ahead temporarily 3-2 but the Sherwoods rebounded to lead by 5-3 at the end of 40 minutes of play. Perry Knee put the Marauders ahead at 3.43 of the first period on a three- way combination with Ran­ dy Funston and Matt Muller. Less than a minute later the Sherwoods tied the score on a successful shot by Dwight Consitt with assists going to Al Taylor and Lloyd Allan. Gary Koehler shot the Sherwoods ahead at 8.30 on a pass from Rick Ingram. Only 24 seconds later the score was again even as Matt Muller hit for Cen­ tralia on a play started by Eldon McCutcheon and Mark Cronyn. With 52 seconds elapsed in the middle frame, the Marauders again moved ahead. This time the goal came from the stick of Ron Funston on an unassisted ef­ fort. In the last seven minutes of the period, Hensall scored three times to take a 5-3 margin on the scoreboard. Bill Chipchase started the Sherwoods scoring spree as he completed a three-way effort with Brian Campbell and captain Gary Kyle. Then in quick succession Fred Campbell registered with a passing help from Jim Ferguson and Brian Campbell and Ferguson hit with assists going to Wayne Corbett and Brian Campbell. In the first 12 minutes of the third period, Centralia battled back with two goals to get back on even terms. Matt Muller out the puck into the Hensall net on a play originated by Ron Funston and Paul Theander scored on a solo dash. Fred Campbell fired his second goal of the night at 12.33 to out the Sherwoods ahead again, but this lead was short-lived. Ron Funston scored his se­ cond most important goal of the night with five minutes left to set the stage for the dramatic overtime victory. Three goals in the last half of the third period allowed Centralia to take Thursday’s game by an 8-5 score. The Marauders jumped into a 2-1 first period lead on successful shots by Ron Funston and Mark Cronyn. Matt Muller assisted on both goals and Ron Funston provided one assist. The first period Hensall marker was fired by Fred Campbell on a three-way combination with Brian List top speakers in Legion's contest The Hensall Legion Public Speaking Contest was held in the Legion Hall, Hensall on Thursday evening with 24 contestants and around 100 parents and friends at­ tending. Mr. Grant McClinchey President of the Legion was Master of Ceremonies and presented the following winners with their trophies: Junior Division: 3rd runner-up - Christine McAdams; 2nd runner-up - Tammy Durand; 1st runner-up - Kelly Schroeder. Senior division: 3rd runner-up - Janet Regier; 2nd runner-up - Tracey Ducharme; 1st runner-up - Nancy Overholt. Kelly Schroeder and Nancy Overholt advanced to Zone Public Speaking in Brussels Legion Hall on Saturday. Do-nuts and coffee were served by the Ladies’ Auxiliary at the close. Unit Four of Hensall U.C.W. Meet The regular meeting Unif four of Hensall U.C.W. was held in the Fellowship Hall with fifteen members present. Mrs. James McAllister presided. Mrs. of i theNellie Riley gave devotion and read the legend of “The Praying Hands” Mrs. Nan Britton spoke on the topic “The Year of the Child” Mrs. Myrtle Sherritt played a piano number. Forty visits were made during the month to sick and shut-ins. Plans were made for the Mission Festival to be held in the United Church Sunday April 1st. The meeting closed with the singing of a hymn followed by the benediction. Mrs. L. Purdy and her committee served lunch. 4-H Club II Meet The Hensall 4-H Club II met at the home of Mrs. Fuss and opened the meeting by repeating the pledge. The members read alternately about hats, selections and care of hats. Everyone is to bring their patterns and material to the next meeting. To hold euchre The C.P.T. Committee of the IOOF and Rebekah Lodges are holding a euchre party in the local hall on Friday. Everyone is welcome. The first Hensall player to hit the scoreboard in the se­ cond 20 minutes was Jim Ferguson on a pass from Brian Campbell. Next was Dwight Consitt on a three­ -way combination with Al Taylor and Bill Chipchase. The third goal was shot by Brian Campbell with assists going to Fred Campbell and Gary Kyle. The Sherwoods tied the score at 5-5 in the first three minutes of the third period when Steve Knight beat Rick Snell in the Centralia net. Assisting were Fred and Brian Campbell. Eldon McCutcheon notch­ ed what proved to be the winning goal for Centralia at 9.07 when he flipped in a pass from Ron Funston. With only 11 seconds left and Hensall pressing with six forwards Mart Muller put the game out of reach with a shot into the empty net. Six seconds later Ron Funston scored the eighth Centralia score on passes from Bill Hodge and Matt Muller. WHY WAIT FOR SPRING?
