By MRS. E. SUMMERS
There was a good at
tendance at the World Day of
Prayer service held in the
Granton United Church,
Friday evening. The theme
for this year’s program was
“Spiritual Growth”. The
service was prepared by the
students in the Pan-African
Leadership Course for
women at Mindolo
Ecumenical Foundation at
Kitwe, Zambia.
Part of the program
“Growth in Knowledge” was
under the leadership of Mrs.
Fred Cook general UCW
president. Mrs. Clarence
Lewis acting president of St.
Thomas Anglican Church
A.C.W. took the lead for
“Growth in Faith. Mrs.
Clayton Karges, president of
Wesley United Church
U.C.W. gave a short
Meditation on “Growth in
Hope.” Mrs. Karges
referred to a TV program on
teen-age suicides and the
hopeless future so many of
our young people face today,
and the need to give them
something to live for.
Mrs. Tom Jenkin, guest
speaker enlarged on the
theme “Spiritual Growth”
saying that some people are
too busy to have time for the
Lord, and do not ask for His
help, unless they get in a
jam, or lose control of their
lives, said Mrs. Jenkin who
is a mother of five children
and has a busy schedule.
Just set aside some part of
the day for your quiet time
with God, surrender all your
problems to Him, and he will
help you. Structure your life
so that you will grow in the
knowledge of Faith, Hope
and Love, this is Spiritual
Growth.
Mrs. Cooked thanked Mrs.
Jenkin for her inspiring
message, also everyone who t
took part in the service, *
including the Senior and
Juniors choirs for the three
selections written especially
for this occasion.
