SUMMERS There was a good at­ tendance at the World Day of Prayer service held in the Granton United Church, Friday evening. The theme for this year’s program was “Spiritual Growth”. The service was prepared by the students in the Pan-African Leadership Course for women at Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation at Kitwe, Zambia. Part of the program “Growth in Knowledge” was under the leadership of Mrs. Fred Cook general UCW president. Mrs. Clarence Lewis acting president of St. Thomas Anglican Church A.C.W. took the lead for “Growth in Faith. Mrs. Clayton Karges, president of Wesley United Church U.C.W. gave a short Meditation on “Growth in Hope.” Mrs. Karges referred to a TV program on teen-age suicides and the hopeless future so many of our young people face today, and the need to give them something to live for. Mrs. Tom Jenkin, guest speaker enlarged on the theme “Spiritual Growth” saying that some people are too busy to have time for the Lord, and do not ask for His help, unless they get in a jam, or lose control of their lives, said Mrs. Jenkin who is a mother of five children and has a busy schedule. Just set aside some part of the day for your quiet time with God, surrender all your problems to Him, and he will help you. Structure your life so that you will grow in the knowledge of Faith, Hope and Love, this is Spiritual Growth. Mrs. Cooked thanked Mrs. Jenkin for her inspiring message, also everyone who t took part in the service, * including the Senior and Juniors choirs for the three selections written especially for this occasion. Happy Gang meet The Happy Gang met at the United Church Wed­ nesday afternoon with Mrs. Chas. Gowan presiding and opening the meeting with the singing of O’Canada followed by a sing-song led by Mrs. Elmer Summers with Mrs. ’Clare Dunlop at the piaffo. * Several items of business were looked after, followed by games of Crokinole and progressive euchre. Mrs. Noon then talked about desserts and how to make gelatine, also the advantages of using gelatine and jello, The Cod Italiano was sampled and Mrs. Noon who had made more Pink Velvet ahead of time, served this with the one Bonnie had made, which the girls en­ joyed very much. The meeting was closed with the 4H motto. The secretary and press reporter for this meeting was Susan Noon, Graham Arthur MOTORS low score Mrs. K. There were no members with birthdays in February, so the cake just had “Be my Valentine” iced on it. 4H news Group (1) of the 4H Club Essential Edibles calling themselves the “Converted Cooks” celled their meeting Wed­ nesday evening. Group 2 “The Granton Grams” met at the home of leader Mrs., Jack Noon, March 3. Susan Noon president opened the meeting with the 4H Pledge, then the roll call was an­ swered with “A recipe using tea biscuits, and how it tasted”. Susan Noon read a letter from the Granton Women’s Institute which had a donation to the club en­ closed. The part for the sixth meeting was discussed, and it was decided to have it on March 17 at 2 p.m. All members were asked to invite their mothers. Leader Mrs. Verne Jensen talked about Menu Planning, and tested the girls on their I.Q. for codcing meat and vegetables, telling how they should be cooked and the do’s and don’ts of cooking each kind of vegetable. Bonnie Harloff demon­ strated how to make Cod can- Personals Mr. & Mrs. Heber Davis, Saintsbury were midday dinner guests of Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins and Mrs. Lois Herbert, Wednesday. That same afternoon, two more friends of Mrs. Hodgins, Mrs. WilliamGilday and Mrs. Stanley Crawford dropped in to give her a hand with the quilt she was working on, Mrs. Joseph Bryan of London and Mrs. Allan Kew of St. Marys were midday dinner guests of Mr, & Mrs, Kenneth Hodgins and Mrs. Lois Herbert, Friday. Mary Mills con- ducterd the morning worship at St. Thomas Anglican Church on the first Sunday in Lent, and based her sermon on the first chapter of the Gospel of St. Matthew. We must convert our lives, first to Christ, second to the church, and third to the world, in that order. If we are going to be self-centred in Christ, we should make Him the centre of our lives said Rev. Mills. At the United Church Rev. Elword Morden was in charge of the morning worship for the first Sunday in Lent and took the text for his sermon from Luke 4, 2 and entitled it “Being Tempted”. Mrs. Keith Lovell contributed a beautiful solo. Mrs. Robert Kinsman, who was key woman, presided oyer the program. Mrs. Jack Sinclair and Mrs. Edison McLean gave a con­ versational skit on Luke 4, 18-19. Helping with the program were Mrs. Bert Faber, Mrs. David Turner, Mrs. Keith Love and Mrs. Harry Caldwell. Personals Mr. & Mrs. James Bryant, Stoney Creek spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. John A. Cooper. N. Blom is visiting relatives in Holland. Mr. & Mrs. Gayle Cooper, London, visited last weekend with Mr.&Mrs.VivanCooper. Mrs. Frank Wright is in University Hospital, London, undergoing surgery. Mrs. Laird Finlayson honoured her daughter Sharon with a trousseau tea, Saturday. Mrs. Finlayson, the bride-to-be and Mrs. Ken Carnochan greeted the guests. Kris Gemmell, Kris McNaughton and Shelley Finlayson looked after the guest book. Fay Carnochan, Pam Carnochan and Sandra Finlayson served tea. Mary O’Brien, June Cooper, Muriel Parsons, Irene Finlayson and Lenore Parsons helped in the kit­ chen.
