V'MtNT BANK Compassion speaker, about needy children Mr. Norman Hare of Compassion of Canada was guest preacher at Lucan United Church Sunday morning. Along with Rev. Jim Somerville, he recently returned from a visit to Haiti and Columbia where new projects arte being initiated to assist needy children. One of these, in North Haiti, is to provide fresh water in an area plagued by severe drought. Instead of having to walk six or seven miles for the polluted water they have been using, villagers now have pure water piped from the hills Couples club plans new members drive The postponed January meeting of Lucan United Church Couples Club met Thursday evening at the Church with new presidents Pam and Howard Wright in charge. The group decided to have a pot luck fellowship supper at the March meeting, and to make a special effort to invite new members to at tend. The annual spring garage sale was planned for May 12. It was decided to accept a United Church Live Love project for Missions giving in 1979 in addition to sponsoring Carol from Dr. Graham’s Homes in India. Pam and Howard Wright, Mary and Dennis McGuire and Mabel and Bill Froats led in a helpful worship service consisting of readings, prayers and hymns, based on the theme of Making a New Start. A New Year will be a better year when the person en tering it leaves behind him the destructive attitudes of the old and accepts the new direction and power Christ offers. Bill and Mabel Froats presented a most interesting travelogue of their recent trip to Germany. They had many beautiful slides and postcards showing points of interest which they had visited. Club members saw Munich and the recent site of the Olympics, as well as smaller towns and villages in West Germany, France and Austria. The pictures in cluded detailed views of several historic churches and castles, and the audience was especially impressed with their ex travagant beauty. A tour down the Rhine by boat, and an excursion to the beautiful mountainous region of Innsbruck, Austria were two further highlights of the evening’s travelogue. The couples in charge served a delicious lunch and all present enjoyed a social time together. available in their own villages. In such villages, illness and disease have been dramatically curtailed. Mr. Hare used this pipeline to illustrate “God’s Water Pipeline.” Christians everywhere need to be joined securely together, along with their leaders, through prayer and fellowship to provide a pipeline through which the Water of Life Christ gives may flow to people who are suffering from spiritual drought. Mr. Hare thanked Lucan area people for their generous support of Com passion projects, and asked their prayers for those who minister to the physical and spiritual needs of children. The junior choir, under the direction of Helen Brown and Linda Froats sang very beautifully. Flowers in the Church were from the t funeral of the late Jack Beard. The sympathy of the congregation was extended to his wife and family. Prayer and Share Fellowship meets this Thursday at 9.45 in the C.E. wing. All women are welcome. Senior choir members were urged to be present for choir practice Thursday at 8.30 and a meeting of the M and S Committee was announced for Monday March 5 at 8 p.m. Communicants’ Class will begin Sunday March 4 at 3 p.m. The Women’s World Day of Prayer service will be held Friday at 2 at Trinity Anglican Church, and not, as previously announced, at Lucan Revival Centre. Mrs. Keith Brown is to bring the message. Child care will be provided. Advertising- I is your way of introduction.
