Times-Advocate, 1979-02-28, Page 8Pag® 8 Times-Advocate, February 28, 1979 Executive praises coaches Saturday night fever rages at figure skating carnival Mor? than 1,000 persons attended and thoroughly enjoyed the 28th annual carnival of the Exeter figure skating club at the South Huron Rec Centre Saturday. The large crowds were treated to afternoon and evening shows put on by the members who range in age from three years to their early 20’s The theme of the carnival was “Saturday NightFever’’ -and depicted most ac tivities which are a part of Saturday night. A number of the senior skaters participated in Hockey Night in Exeter as the Hawkettes and the Old Timers. Depicting "On the Town” were Elaine Pym and Jack Underwood. Only one-half of the ex pected visiting guest skating team was able to perform. Lorri Baier of Mitchell who with Lloyd Eisler of Seaforth recently won the Canadian junior pairs championship was injured in a practice earlier in the week and is in hospital. Lloyd Eisler presented a solo routine, Also skating were Laurie Prout of the Exeter club and Bill Scriber of London who placed fourth in the 1979 novice junior pairs com petition for Western Ontario. Other skaters doing solo numbers were Audrey Adkins and Brenda Pin- combe. Co-conveners of the car- nival were Pat Down and Carol Arthur. The announcer was Don Cameron. Shirley Hart is president of the Exeter figure skating club and Marie Tieman vice- president. Agnes Aunger is treasurer and Mary Jenn Chanyi handles the secretarial duties. The conveners wish to thank everyone on the various committees and all the volunteer parents who are necessary to make a carnival successful. A statement from the executive is as follows: “One of the reasons we have a successful skating program is due to the time and effort contributed by our amateur coaches. Prior to becoming an amateur coach, these girls must first attend a CFSA sanctioned coaches clinic where they are in structed on the principles of teaching the elements of the National Test Badges. Throughout the entire skating season they spend many hours working with skaters in the badge groups.” Carrie Blackburn head coach and coaches are Audrey Adkins, Patti Down, Brenda Pin combe and Laurie Prout.
