Spaceman visits local church The first C.P.W. meeting for 1979 was held in a lovely New Years setting in Caven church basement, Monday evening, January 8 with Mrs, Strang presiding. The devotions was on new year thoughts. Roll call was some suggestions of needed articles for our new kitchen and to bring them for the next meeting. Committees gave their reports including one from the ladies that visited in Huronview Saturday. The February meeting will be on the 12th, same place at 2 p.m. Used postage stamps were collected during the year and- sent to the Western Ontario division of the Canadian Bible Society, London. The program started with a sing song followed with the study. Q Adults' Paramettes Adults' Paramettes As world changes, so must missions The 95th annual meeting of the Stratford Presbyterial of the Women’s Missionary Society was held Tuesday, January. 9 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in 'Stratford. About 85 women attended dispite stormy weather. The outgoing president, Mrs. Derek Nind of Listowel, gave the call to worship and the devotions were conducted by Mrs. Stuart Peebles and Mrs. Elwood Roe, both of Atwood, The members were welcomed by Rev. Ferguson on behalf of the hcst church. The theme of the meeting “Today’s Goals.’’ was presented by Rev. Harrold Morris. Listowel. Mr. Morris is chairman of the Board of World Missions and he was introduced by Mrs. Hartley Fischer of Listowel. Mr. Morris stressed that as the world changes so must our way of handling missions change. These goals: 1. education for mis­ sion; 2. increase stewardship for missions; 3. obedience to oppor­ tunities ; 4. overcome barriers. These are the ones to be attained. In these four, peo­ ple should be ready to change their attitudes and understanding of those with whom they work, He was thanked by the president for his presentation. Following tea served dur­ ing the lunch hour by the members of St. Andrews, a hymn sing led by Mrs. Yolanda Graf, Mitchell, opened the afternoon ses­ sion. Mrs. Eleanor Kress, Listowel, conducted a memorial service in honour of members who had passed away during the past year. The roll call was answered by naming a goal of your W.M.S. group for 1979. The various secretaries gave their reports and the members enjoyed a piano duet by Mrs. H.H. Howald and Mrs. Jas. Corry of Listowel. Mrs. Thomas White of Sebringville, presented the slate of officers for 1979 and Rev. A.E. Nelson of Avon- ton, conducted the installa­ tion. Now... Mrs. Vera Armstrong welcomed all hoping everyone had a lovely Christmas and were full of new ideas for the New Year. Roll call was answered by 23 ladies paying their dues. All ladies were en­ couraged to push sales of the record, Stories of the Bible that is being sold by the UCW members. A thank you note was read received from the James Street Home. » Coming Events included Huron Perth Presbyterial January 30 at Exeter United Church starting at 9:30 a.m., and the General meeting of UCW on January 22. Mrs. Mary Fisher, Mrs. Carol Willert and Mrs. Elsie Tuckey presided for the worship. The guest speaker, Rev. Forsythe was introduced by Mrs. Mary Fisher. Each group received an orange to be compared to the Bible. How does the comparison between an orange and Bible pertain to UCW and Me? A lively discussion followed. The Bible is like a gold mine, the deeper we dig the more we discover. A delicious lunch follow­ ed, with Mrs. Verla Russell’s group in charge.
