Quiet games were enjoyed followed by a hymn sing of favourite choruses, new and old. Jim Robertson read two appropriate scripture passages, the messages of which were expanded upon by Rev. Keith Brown. Delicious refreshments were served by various members following the welcoming in, with God of the New Year. Sincere thanks to Rev. and Mrs. Brown and their family for their gracious hospitality. Lucan council Tuesday night approved a policy statement which authorizes the establishment of an official crest for the village. The statement prepared by councillor Norm Steeper said council recognizes its role of fostering pride in the village of Lucan and in fostering a positive com munity spirit adopts a form of symbolism that represents the traditional and contemporary character of the village. The new Lucan crest is modelled after the family crest of the Earl of Bingham, I------ a fewLord Lucan with variations. Six gold (shamrocks) on a green background representing the Irish nature of the com munity replaces the six gold crosses on an azure background in the Bingham crest. The bordered diagonal trefoil bar was retained. The falcon device on the Bingham crest was aban doned and replaced with symbolism more ap propriate to Lucan. These consist of the Cross of St. George in addition to suggestions of Christianity are representative of British Colonial and Commonwealth connections, The three sheaves of wheat represent agricultural origins and industries. The locomotive gives credit to the fact the existence as a village was due to the fact the railway came to Lucan. The three maple leaves suggest Lucan’s role as a municipality in the province of Ontario and the wreath of maple leaves symbolize Canadianism. The logo “A place for people” suggests to all the importance of each person living in the community and hospitality to all who visit the village, The new crest will appear on all village stationery and be displayed on all village property where appropriate. The prophecy of Isaiah of the coming of a king greater than David vtas confirmed in the birth, life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Jesus came to establish peace, not to make war on Rome. His “trium phant entry” was on the b^ck of an animal pf peace, a donkey, not on a War horse. Though lowly, he bore himself in a kingly way as He was accused by the high priest and before Pilot He maintained His silence, but acknowledged His Kingship. His resurrection also bort, out His Kingship and again 40 days later as He returned to His Father’s home leaving His promise to come again. This gave His followers' strength, courage and love. He came to each person to help him do God’s work in His kingdom on earth and He still comes to each of us today. “Are we letting Him be King of our lives?” asked Rev. Brown, “If so, let us keep on honouring Him but if not, let us confess our. rebellion and invite Him into our lives. He will richly blefes us and make us new persons. Let us all start 1979 with Jesus Christ as King of our lives.” A beautiful solo “Down From His Glory” was sung by Rev. Brown. The flowers in the sanc tuary were from the funeral of the late Rufus Thompson. We remember the family in prayer and ask that God’s blessing be with them in their time of need.
