Club meets in
former church
The annual Christmas ac-
tivities of the Kinette club of
Hensall have had far reaching
results throughout the com-
munity. Under the leadership of
Mrs. Donna St. John, shut-ins
were visited on December 12 and
miniature poinsettia given to
them for Christmas. Donna also
organized a visit to the Queen-
sway Nursing Home last Wed-
nesday when gifts were
presented to each of the patients
by children of the Kinettes (the
Kin Kids), The leaders and their
committees are to be thanked for
all the volunteer work they did.
The December meeting took
place on Wednesday at the
Country Spire, starting with a
shopping tour there, Afterwards
the members and their guests
met at Pat Brown's in Exeter and
final arrangements were made
for the above activities. The
"March of Dimes" in January
was also discussed. An exchange
of gifts among members then
took place •
Concert held
An old fashioned Christmas
concert was held in the Hensall
United Church schoolroom on
Wednesday. Attendance and
participation was down as the flu
bug is getting more prevalent
around Hensall. Numbers were
given by each of the graded
classes and the audience sang
carols between numbers.
Naturally Santa Claus arrived to
end the evening with treats for
the children.

visited with Mr, & Ms. Howard
Smale on Christmas Day.

fete seniors
The last regular meeting of the
Kinsmen Club of Hensall and
District for the year 1977 was held
in the form of their annual Senior
Citizen Christmas Party last
Monday.
The evening commenced with a
" bus trip for approximately 35
senior citizens from Hensall to
the Bluewater Rest Home in
Zurich. The first part of the
evening was spent visiting with
the residents of the Rest Home.
Later in the evening, en-
tertainment was provided by
Mozart Gelinas and his Melody
Makers, who complimented the
season with several Christmas
songs. Following the much-
enjoyed entertainment a lovely
lunch was served to everybody by
the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rest
Home. While everybody was
enjoying lunch, 12 door prizes of
Christmas chocolates were
drawn for and presented to the
lucky winners. A good time was
had by all.
150 club draw held
The Kinsmen Club of Hensall
and District held their second
annual 150 Club Draw at the
Hensall Legion on last Saturday.
The winners are as follows: 1st
prize of $500, Jim St. John,
Sunderland, Ontario; 2nd prize of
$100, Grant St. John, Hensall; 3rd
prize of $50, Bill Walsh,
Seaforth. There were 12 con-
solation prizes of $25: J. A. Black,
London, Ontario; Len Smale,
Hensall; Harold Knight, Hensall;
George Varley,' Kippen; Lorne
Taylor, Varna; Earl McNab,
Hensall ; Peter Zwann, Hensall;,
Corky Schroeder, Exeter; Gary
Kyle, Exeter. Our $500 winner,
Jim St. John, was also fortunate
enought to win $25 and Greta
Baker won twice in the $25 draws.

Miss Joan Forrest of Fort
McMurray, Alberta is spending
the Christmas week with her
parents, Mr. & Mrs. Edison
Forrest. Bruce Forrest has
completed his Doctorate at
Simon Frazer University,.
Vancouver and is moving to
University of Waterloo in the new
year to take a Post-doctorate in
Chemistry.
Jack Phillips of Greenford,
London, England and Mr. & Mrs.
Ben McAuley of Vanastra visited
with Mr. & Mrs. Larry McAuley
and family over Christmas.
Mr. & Mrs. Jack Smith spent
Friday night in Guelph with their
son Greg and then all three went
to Erin and spent Christmas with
their daughter and son-in-law Mr.
& Mrs. John McGuire and family.
Mrs. James McAllister has
returned home from South Huron
Hospital, Exeter, where she has
been a patient for the past two
weeks.
Mrs. Bill Fuss is home after
undergoing surgery in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London and
was able to enjoy Christmas
dinner with her family,

returned home after having
surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London,

Christmas day,
Sermon related
to modern times
Rev. Don Beck conducted the
annual Christmas Eve Com-
munion service at Hensall United
Church on Saturday with a
good attendance. The com-
munion meditation on "A
traditional sermon" showed how
all the trappings of modern times
can be dedicated to the true
Christmas story. The choir,
under the leadership of Mrs. John
Turkheim, sang the anthem, "In
the silence of the night" with
Mrs. Donna St. John taking the
solo, The coloured Advent can-
dles were replaced by white
candles on the wreath with a
fifth, taller candle in the centre,
signifying purity and Jesus as the
Light of the World, and the fifth
candle was lit by John BlackWell.
On Christmas Day morning,
the usual morning service was
conducted by Rev, Don Beck,
who preached on the subject,
"Fillthi with wonder", Christmas
is a wonderful time in all its
aspects. The choir sang the an-
them, "Joy to the World" and
Shawn Cooper, son of Mr. & Mrs.
Donald McCurdy was presented
for baptism. Flowers in the
church were in loving memory of
Mrs. Jean Ferguson, placed
there by her family.

The Christmas Church service
in Carmel Presbyterian Church
was conducted by Rev. Fox of
Huron College on Sunday. Miss
Brenda Pepper played the organ
and led the choir in singing. The
Senior choir sang as a prelude to
the service the first part of the
"Manager King" cantata and
the anthem "Christmas Gloria".
The Junior choir sang "The Little
Drummer Boy" and "Away in a
Manger", Rev. Fox delivered an
inspiring Christmas message and
baptized the children of Mr, &
Mrs. Harry Moir, Hensall and
Mr. & Mrs. Bailey of Exeter,
congregation. The service con-
cluded with the Senior choir
singing the last song in "Manger
King". The members of Caven
Presbyterian Church, Exeter
worshipped with Carmel Church
for the Christmas service.
Pee Wees drop game to Zurich
The Pee Wees played against
Zurich on Friday, losing to Zurich
10-5.

Mr. George Parker who was a
patient in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter was able to return to his
home for Christmas.

Bantams lose
close game
Hensall Bantams played
against Dublin on Thursday
losing to Dublin by 5-4. Most of
the first period was scoreless but
Hensall finally pushed ahead
when Jeff Rowe ,scored assisted
by Dave Consitt,
Both teams were fighting for
goals in the third period. Dave
Consitt scored for Hensall
assisted by Jeff Sangster and Jeff
Rowe, followed by Paul Smale
scoring the third goal for Hensall
assisted by Doug Volland and
Dennis McBride. The fourth goal
was scored by Dave Consitt
assisted by Jamie McClinchey.
