Members of Branch 540 are
reminded there are but a few
days left in which to get their 1978
branch dues paid and thus
becoming a member of that elite
club known as the 'Early Birds'
and believe me that's something
to CROW about. 1978 dues are
only $14. - why not pay them now
and start the New Year right.
Old Santa was most pleased to
meet so many children at the
Legion last Sunday afternoon and
wishes to take this opportunity to
thank Constable Gord Barker of
the local detachment of the
Ontario Provincial Police for
showing movies to Santa's guests
and also to Comrade Carl
Stuckless for helping Santa with
handing out the gifts. It was a
great afternoon and I know Santa
and the children had a wonderful
afternoon.
Got your Wintario tickets yet.
Remember Branch 540 has them
and the profit from the sale of
these tickets helps the Legion
improve its service to you the
members.
Comrade Carl Stuckless,
Branch 540's New Year's eve
dance convener advises there are
still a few tickets left. If you were
at last New Year's eve do, you
know what a fantastic job Carl
did and he promises that this
years dance will be even better,
and that's almost an im-
possibility - but if anyone can do
it Carl can.
Please remember the tickets
will be sold on a first come first
served basis and the sale is open
to anyone who wishes to attend.
Just a great way to welcome the
New Year with good friends.
Members are also reminded
Tuesday night at 9:50 p.m. on
County Road 16 west of Highbury
Avenue, a car driven by Mary
Leigh Hudson, RR 1, Arva
collided with the rear of a tractor
driven by Gordon Linton, RR 3,
Ilderton. Miss Hudson received
minor injuries. Constable B.D.
Munro listed damages at $2000.
Branch 540's appreciation night
will be held Friday December 23
between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8
p.m. That means two for theiprice
of one. Make it a point to bring
your best gal for an evenings
entertainment where nice people
like to meetand come to think of
it, it's just two days prior to
Christmas, this will also give you
the opportunity to extend your
Christmas Greetings to those
present. See you there.
This being the last Comments
until some time in the New Year
may I take this opportunity to
wish all my readers a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy, Healthy
and Prosperous New Year. Many
thanks also to the Exeter Times
Advocate for allowing Branch 540
space in theirgree news paper to
publish Daleys Weekly Com-
ments. God Bless You All.
Incidentally shortly after
Christmas Hilda and I will be
travelling to Apt. 106, 55 Chapple
Street, Sault Ste Marie Ontario,
P6B 3P2 to be with a young chap
(my dad) wk'., on January 7 will
be 100 yearn young; if you could
find the time I know he would
appreciate receiving a card from
the numerous friends he made
during his many visits to Lucan
and area. Will let you know what
went on in my first Comments
upon my return sometime in the
New Year.
Again Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year to All - and God
Bless.
And thats 30 for this year -
Remember - There exists
limitless opportunities in every
Legion - Where there is an open
mind, there will always be a
frontier.
Sunday School
presents concert
The Lucan United Church was
filled with parents and friends on
Sunday evening for the annual
Sunday Church School Christmas
concert, when each class had a
share in delighting their audience
with songs and plays,
Anne Holden's Kindergarten
class held signs depicting the
word "Greetings" and sang
"Away in A Manger"; Marilyn
Carter's Primary boys and girls
presented "Christmas Helpers";
Betty Hall's Primary boys and
girls gave "Symbols of Christ-
mas" holding articles and telling
their meaning; Mabel Froats'
junior boys and girls did the
playlet "Angels I View" and a
skit "The Meaning of Christ-
mas"; the other junior boys and
girls, taught by Jean Brown gave
the meanings of different types of
trees and picked the "evergreen"
as the Christmas Tree.
Wes Stanley's intermediate
class wrote their own skit entitled
"The Modern C ristmas" using
sleeping bags, quarreling over
their gifts but ending up with the
true Christmas Story, read by
Sherry Froats. The senior class,
taught by Barbara Bannerman,
who was also the convener for
this lovely event, presented "The
Sounds of Christmas".
To complete the fine program,
the first Canadian carol " `Twas
in the Moon of Wintertime" was
sung by the whole Church School
membership with Anna Bates
and Alex Jones taking the part
of the Holy Parents, dressed in
beautiful costumes provided by
Alex' mother, Mrs. A. Jones.
Even the "Babe" was dressed in
animal skins.
Rev. Keith Brown pronounced
a Christmas benediction and
parents, friends and children
mingled in an hour of fellowship
in the General Assembly room
enjoying punch and cookies
organized by the Adult Study
group. Santa Claus appeared in
the C.E. wing to distribute bags_
of goodies to the children, and
wishing all a very Happy
Christmas.
