They were back on home ice at the South Huron Rec Centre for the next two contests and were also victorious. Friday they dumped Bothwell by a score of 8-3 and Sunday night it was a close 5-4 decision over the Mitchell Hawks. The Hawks season record now stands at is wins, three losses and a tie good for 31 points. Mitchell and Lucan are dead- locked for second place with 23 points apiece, The next home game for the Hawks is Friday night when they play host to the Belmont Bom- bers. Monday afternoon, the locals travel to Mitchell for a 2 p.m, contest. Win in third Two third period goals allowed the Exeter youngsters to edge Mitchell Sunday night. The two clubs were tied at 3.3 after two periods of play and Mitchell scored a go ahead marker in the first three minutes of the final period before the Hawks scored twice to take the victory. Mitchell was quick to bounce back and Mike Avery and Bill Stacey counted in the next two minutes to again even the score-. Phil Avery put Mitchell ahead 4-3 at 3:06 of the third period on a power play. Fred Mornmersteeg took a pass from Matt Muller at 7:42 and beat Bob Ward in the Mitchell net to tie the score at 4-4, The winning goal came at 10:54 when Brian Taylor took a pass from Steve Jennison and blinked the light behind the Mitchell net. Steve Beer in the Exeter net faced 31 shots while his team- mates sent 44 shots at the Mit- chell goal. Get in front early Against Bothwell Friday night, the Hawks wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Steve Jennison converted a pass from Ken Pinder at 1:09 and the Hawks were off and flying. By the end of the first 20 minutes of play the score was 4-0. Brian Taylor scored the next two goals in a space of 49 seconds. Don McKellar assisted on both goals and Randy Fisher and Steve Jennison each gained one assist, Two titles for wrestlers The team championship of the annual Black and Red wrestling tournament was won Friday by Sarnia Northern. The nine team tourney was held at South Huron District High School for the eighth consecutive year. e Sarnia compiled a total of 213 points to win the title, South Huron was second with 196 points, St. Marys Collegiate placed third at 126 points and Cambridge fourth with 121 points. Other schools participating were from Goderich, Listowel, Parkside of St. Thomas, Waterloo and North Middlesex of Parkhill, Two South Huron wrestlers won individual Championships. Mike Westelaken won a gold medal in the 127 pound division and Rick Skinner was the champion at 177 pounds, Six other local athletes finished second in their respective weight classifications. They are Vince Winters, Phil De Haan, Cliff Hicks, Kevin Hern, Bill Duttman and Ron Miller. Third place finishers were Alfred Martens and Ray Gallagher. Other South Huron participants were Jeff Wemyss, Brad Scott, Kerry Bedard, Gerard Cyr, Brian Pym and John Munn. Cliff Hicks of South Huron scored the fastest pin of the day defeating his opponent in only seven seconds. Brad Scott and Alfred Martens were named the most improved wrestlers and Rick Skinner and Mike Westelaken won best wrestler honours. The fourth Exeter Marker came from the stick of Ken Pinder on a three-way effort with Matt Muller and Fred Mom- mersteeg. In the second period, Jamie CaldWell was a double scorer for the Hawks. His first score came with passing help from Randy Fisher and Brian Taylor while the second was on a solo dash, Brion Penhale and Matt Muller were the Exeter marksmen in the final stanza to close out their team's scoring. The Hawks again held a good edge on shots on goal by a count of 49 to 27, Steve Beer was in goal for the Hawks, "Three" was the magic number for three Exeter minor hockey teams, Sunday, as they posted wins over three Ilderton teams and did so by scoring three goals each. The same three teams posted wins in Lucan in a Friday night triple-header. The Exeter midgets set the pattern on Sunday as they opened the triple-header with a 3-1 margin over Ilderton. Doug Brooks paced the attack for the locals with a tow-goal performance, while Larry Dawson fired the other. Dawson's was an unassisted effort, while picking up assists on the Brooks goals were Dave Atthill, Dave Bogart and Jeff Fuller. Exeter out-shot Ilderton by a decisive 30-10 margin, In Lucan, the midgets had to come from behind to gain a 4-3 margin over the Irish. The scoring was evenly split with single tallies going to Wayne Parsons, Doug Brooks, Preston Dearing and Jeff Fuller, The latter's unassisted effort was the game winner, Scoring for Lucan were Rick Hall, Jim Hayter and Martin Duenk. Keep it going The Exeter pee wees, who started slowly in the Shamrock league, ran their unbeaten string to seven games with victories over Ilderton and Lucan this week. They scored a 5-3 win on Lucan ice, Friday, with John Kernick pacing the attack on a hat trick performance. The singles came off the sticks of Scott Brintnell and Darren Vandergunst, Picking up assists for Exeter were Mike Tiedeman, Ted Oke, Vandergunst and Brian Black- burn, The Lucan scoring was all handled by Jeff Shipley with a hat trick. On Sunday, Exeter nipped Ilderton by a 3-1 count. In Lucan, Dave Shaw was a two-goal man for the locals, while singles were recorded by Al Geiser, Dave Bell and Dave Jackson, Jackson also picked up three assists, while Dave Newton and Dave Underwood helped on one each.
