From Santa
This is the last chance to get in our requests to Santa
Claus for this year.
The jolly old fellow in the red suit makes his annual
visit Saturday night and we hope he brings a lot of goodies
for many sporting teams and groups.
First of all to the Exeter Minor Hockey Association a
successful novice tournament next Monday and Tuesday.
A second straight provincial championship for the Ex-
eter junior Hawks.
For the Exeter Lions club a full house at the South
Huron.Rec Centre for the February 7 Sportsmen's dinner.
To the Lucan-Il derton Jets we hope Santa has a few vic-
tories in his bag after a losing streak which is the longest in
the team's history.
To the bowlers at Aub Farquhar's emporium a 450
game or two in the new year.
The same type of wish for some eight enders at the Ex-
eter curling rink and 180 scores in the Exeter Legion mixed
dart league.
For the Toronto Argonauts at least a playoff position in
the Canadian Football league next year.
Twenty victories and 30 pick-offs for southpaw Jerry
Garvin of the Toronto Blue Jays,
A Norris trophy win by Borje Salming of the Toronto
Maple Leafs.
A new offensive formation for Leo Cahill of,the Argos
so he can use two quarterbacks at the same time.
A can of stickum for Chuck Ealey of the Hamilton Tiger
Cats.
A trade to bring Fergie Jenkins to the Blue Jays from
the Texas Rangers.
To Harold Ballard a trade for a 50 goal scorer and
future considerations being the number one draft choice in
Wayne Gretzky's graduation year.
The 1979 Super Bowl championship for the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers.
A truce between baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn
and Charlie Finley of the Oakland Athletics.
A tape measure for Jim Guenther of the Dashwood
Tigers to measure a certain home run hit in 1977 at the
Crediton ball park.
For Derry Boyle and Wally Burton a crystal ball to
assist in their selection of Hawk of the month.
For Harold Ballard more economic minded players like
Darryl Sittler and Lanny MacDonald when it comes to con-
tract signing time.
For Eddie Shack a proper protector for his million
dollar nose.
A Schenley award in 1978 for Glenn Weir of the Montreal
Alouettes,
Youth revitalization pills for boxers George Chuvalo
and Mohammed Ali.
The same medicinal help for those over 35 years of age
hockey players at the South Huron Rec Centre each Sunday
morning.
A team leader for the Detroit Tigers and a completely
healed shoulder for Mark "The Bird" Fidrych.
The 1978 winter baseball meetings in Toronto.
Exciting tourney
We wish to remind our readers of the annual novice
hockey tournament which will be held Monday and Tuesday
of next week.
Sponsored by the Exeter Minor Hockey Association the
two day event will be held at the South Huron Rec Centre.
It has been expanded this year to include 20 teams play-
ing in three categories.
A total of 25 games will be played with the finals taking
place late afternoon and early evening, Tuesday.
Taking in the exciting hockey action and getting into the
cheering mood would be a good way to counteract the possi-
ble overeating on Sunday.
TO ALL A VERY MERRY AND BLESSED
CHRISTMAS.
On Tuesday, December 27, the
"A" teams will start their play.
Teams entered in the division ar
Goderich, Strathroy, St, Marys,
Hanover, Elmira, Walkerton,
Listowel and Tillsonburg.
Also featured on Tuesday's
card will be the "B" consolation
and championship, as well as the
"A" play.

early lead on a goal by Dave
Russell, only to have Danny
Oliver knot the count shortly
after.
The game continued in that
pattern as Paul Mellecke scored
twice for Exeter and each time
Oliver came back to even the
count.
Grand Bend then jumped into a
4-3 lead on a goal by Todd Nelder,
and this set the stage for Bryan
Quinn's game-tying marker.
There were no penalties in the
exciting tilt,
In Saturday's visit to Parkhill,
goalie Fred Gregus was the
busiest man on the ice as he kept
the Waxers in the contest with
some key stops as Parkhill
dominated play.
The home crew took a 2-0 lead
on goals by Jerry Lamport, while
Bryan Quinn picked up Exeter's
lone tally. He was dumped on a
breakaway, but the puck slid into
the net with him.
The Waxers have the honor of
playing the first game in the local
novice tournament which opens
at 8:30 a.m. on December 26.
They'll face Mitchell in that
game.
They'll return to the ice around
noon on the same day, either in
the winners' round or the con-
solation series. Their opposition
will be Seaforth or Sarnia
Reserve.
Monday's schedule also
features the "AA" series, which
includes Southwest London,
Burlington, Oakridge Acres and
Galt. Those games get underway
at 10:20 a.m.
Other teams in the "B" series
along with Exeter and those
previously named are Kin-
cardine, Waterford, Lambeth
and Parkhill

Good comeback
The Jets showed great
comeback abilities against
Preston, Sunday. After falling
behind 3-0 early in the third
period they bounced back to even
the score by the halfway mark
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets came
very close to breaking their
current losing streak, but, close
doesn't count in hockey.
aftfr.n, losing 7-2 to the un-
defeated Pefrolia Squires Friday
night, the Jets came roaring back
Sunday against the Preston
Jesters.
The Jets were holding a 5-4
margin on the scoreboard with
less than a minute to go when
disaster struck. Preston scored
two soft goals and took home the
victory by the narrowest of
margins 6-5,

and went on to take the emporary
third period lead.
Jim Reid. Gerry Harrigan and
Ken Stewart were the early
marksmen for the Preston club.
Two power play opportunities
put the Jets back in the game,
Brian Murphy started the scoring
at 4.47 on a three-way effort with
Gary Ferra and Barry Baynham
and less than six minutes later he
was back to score again with the
same teammates assisting.
At 10:40 Ken McCutcheon
evened the score on another
power play situation with assists
going to Scott Graham and
Barry Baynham.
Before the second period was
completed Murray Markle
scored for Preston to put his club
in front 4-3.
A lot of hard work paid off for
the Jets at 10.06 of the third
period when Terry Johnson beat
Paul Steffler in the Preston net,
At 18.24 Barry Baynham scored
what appeared to be the winning
goal for the L-I club on passes
