Church news
The afternoon unit of United
Church ladies met Thursday
afternoon in the Sunday School
rooms, when 17 members and
Rev. H. Moore, sat down to a
delicious pot luck luncheon.
The worship service was
conducted by President, Eleanor
Durie, and she read several
verses of scripture from the book
of John.
Roll call was answered by a
Christmas wish. Mrs. Durie read
passages of Christmas days,
alternating with Christmas
carols played by Elaine Moore.
It was decided to decorate and
pack Christmas boxes on
December 19 or 20 for shut-ins
and friends.
Due to the bad weather the
meeting closed early.
The third Sunday in Advent
was celebrated Sunday morning
at the United Church. Reader
Mark Willert, lit the third candle,
a green one, and said, "Green is
the symbolic colour of Hope-of
Regeneration -of Nurture -of
Growth."
We light this green candle for
Jesus Christ, who calls us to
break out of our traditional
thinking, to be creative in our
approach to loving our neigh-
bour. This green candle reminds
us that what we must offer a
broken world is Hope.
Rev.H, Moore's sermon topic
was "The Meaning of Christ-
mas." Choir anthem was, "To a
Virgin meek mild."
Mrs. Sharon Soldan played the
organ music with flute ac-
companiment by Mrs. Dawn
Crabe.
