a last.
When you want to borrow money, you want that
money now. That's where we believe a Scotia Plan
Loan has a strong competitive edge: our Scotia Plan
Loan Officers.
You see, every Scotia Plan Loan Officer has full
authority to approve most loans on the spot. No
need to check with
computers or higher-ups.
Now, that kind of
system has to be faster,
doesn't it?
Every Scotiabank
branch has at least one
Scotia Plan Loan Officer.
It's his or her business
to compete with the other
banks for your
loan business. By making
your loan approval as
quick and easy as possible.
By making sure that
your repayment planisn' t
too heavy for you.
That's how Scotiabank has become a leader in
the field of consumer bank loans ...more than
5',% million loan approvals, and that number is grow-
ing daily. We want you to grow with us! so no matter
where you do your day-to-day banking business, we
want your loan business. And we think we should •

The best news this week for
Lucan-Ilderton Jets manager
Don Urbshott is the fact his team
didn't lose a game. Actually, they
didn't play.
The only game scheduled for
the Jets was Friday against the
Stratford Perths and it was
postponed because of the stormy
weather.
This week the Jets will be in
action on three occasions. Friday
night they travel to Petrolia to
meet the unbeaten league leading
Squires.
Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. the
Jets will be at home at the
Ilderton arena to the Preston
Jesters and Wednesday night at
8.15 p.m. they will play host to the
Durham Huskies,
The Petrolia club won their
17th straight game over the
weekend to eclipse the previous
mark of 16 set by the Lucan-
Ilderton Jets during the 1972-73
season.
On the Petrolia feat, Urbshott
commented, "Records are made
to be broken."
Start Too Late
The Exeter midgets played
only one period of good hockey in
their exhibition test with Byron,
Sunday, and couldn't overcome
the visitors' lead as they lost by a
4-3 count.
Byron scored twice in each of
the first two periods and ap-
peared to be walking away with
Jets contest
cancelled
The weekend blizzard/played
havoc with the schedule of Exeter
minor hockey teams this week,
cancelling all but three games. In
those contests, the bantams and
atoms picked up wins in
Shamrock play against ,Lucan,
while the local midgets were
nipped by Byron in exhibition
play.
After trading early goals with
Lucan in the first period at the.
rec centre, Sunday, the atoms
skated away to a 6-1 margin.
George Pratt and Steve Gould
paced the scoring attack with a
pair of tallies each, while single
markers were recorded by Scott
Lovie and Sean Whiteford.
Picking up assists in the con-
test were Bill Fisher, Jeff Pfaff,
Allan Pym and Brett Batten.
Brad Scott scored for Lucan,
the tilt until the locals caught fire
in the final stanza.
Preston Dearing got them on
the scoreboard at the 6:07 mark
on a play with Dave Bogart and
Dearing then came back with his
second marker two minutes later
with the assists going to Dan Bell
and Brian Mercer.
Bell then cut the lead to one
goal with less than four minutes
HOUSELEAGUE REPEATS
The weekend blizzard curtailed
play in the Exeter minor hockey
houseleague this week, Several
players were unable to attend.
In view of that situation, last
week's schedule will be repeated
this Saturday morning.
Northlander (1) will meet
Discount Dave's in the 9:00 a.m.
opener and Taylor Motors (3) will
face AVCO (2) in the 10:30 con-
test.
Exeter's annual novice hockey
tournament is expected to be one
of the most interesting in its
eight-year history when it gets
underway on December 26.
A total of 20 teams have
entered, the largest number
ever.
Included this year for the first
time is an "AA" division, featur-
ing Oakridge Acres, Southwest
London, Burlington and Galt.
The "A" division teams con-
sist of St. Marys, Goderich,
Hanover, Walkerton, Listowel,
Elmira, Strathroy and Tillson-

pete in the "B" division, along
with Kincardine, Parkhill, Sar-
• nia Indian Reserve, Waterford,

It's less than two months until the fifth annual Exeter
Sportsmen's dinner is upon us.
The Exeter Lions club is again sponsoring the popular
event and all proceeds will go to aid crippled children.
Dinner chairman Doug Ellison and his hard working
,committee have lined up a good array of celebrities for the
dinner to be held Tuesday, February 7 at the South Huron
Rec Centre.
Orie of the most important persons at this type of dinner
is the master of ceremonies and this year's introducer of
guests will do an excellent job.
He is Bill Brady of CFPL radio in London and Bill's
ability to react to any situation on his Open Line show
should fit in with his master of ceremonies job.
For the first four Sportsmen's dinners, the MC jobs
Were handled very capably by the late Tory Gregg, Bruce
Murray, Tuffy Knight and Lee Paul.
Headlining the guest speakers will be Normie Kwong
who gained the nickname, "The China Clipper" when he
was a football star with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The only celebrity to be making his fifth straight
appearance at the Exeter dinner will be Glenn Weir of Mon-
treal Alouettes. Weir, who was named the top defensive
play in the 1977 Grey Cup has the reputation of having the
best appetite in Western Ontario.
Joining Glenn from CFL football will be former Toron-
to Argonaut Bill Symons, who will be here for the second
time.
Attempts are still being made to secure one of the
veteran performers in the National football league,
Quarterback Craig Morton of the Denver Broncos. Also,
coach Leo Cahill of the Toronto Argos is still a distinct
possibility.
Another performer in the recent Grey Cup could be
here if his wife has enough influence. Canada's Olympic
decathalon star Dianne Jones Konihowski will be a head
table guest and husband John of the Edmonton Eskimos
could tag along.
The game of baseball should be well represented. The
Detroit Tigers will be sending their speedy centre fielder
Ron LeFlore and two members of the Toronto Blue Jays
will also be in attendance.
One of the most knowledgeable men in the hockey
broadcasting business will be here. He is the colour com-
mentator on Hockey Night in Canada, Brian McFarlane.
The second hockey guest will be former Detroit Red Wing
Larry Jeffrey.
All in all it looks like a good lineup for February 7.
Order your tickets now from any member of the Exeter
Lions club. They remain at $25 for adults with a special stu-
dent price of $15. Receipts will be issued for income tax
purposes.
Exciting Hockey In The Offing
The old cliche, "bigger and better than ever"seems to
get a lot of usage, but it really applies to the upcoming Ex-
eter novice tournament.
In order to qualify as bigger and better, the tourney has
been expanded to take 20 teams and a higher classification
has been added.'
It is sponsored by the Exeter Minor ,Hockey Association
and will be held at the South Huron Rec Centre on Monday
and Tuesday, December 26 and 27. A total of 25 games will
be played.
For the first time an "AA" grouping has been added
and the participating clubs will be from Southwest London,
Burlington, Galt and Oakridge Acres.
Comprising the "A" division will be Goderich, St.
Marys, Walkerton, Hanover, Elmira, Listowel, Tillsonburg
and Strathroy.
In the "B" section along with the Exeter Waxers will be
Parkhill, Kincardine, Waterford, Sarnia Indian Reserve,
Lambeth, Mitchell and Seaforth.
More From The Continental
The Petrolia Squires have broken the OHA Continental
senior league record by winning 17 straight games. The old
mark of 16 was held by the Lucan-Ilderton Jets.
Petrolia, the newest team in the league started the
season with a win and they haven't stopped. The Squires
took further steps to ensure an excellent club by signing
goalie Al Sarachman who was recently cut from the Central
hockey league,
Petrolia is the only team in the league with three
brothers on the roster. They are Dan, Dave and Dale
Wilson. To add to the confusion is a cousin Roll Wilson.
League statistician Nick Martin reports this week that
over the years 20 brother combinations have performed in
the Continental, but, this is the first time for three on one
club.
Martin also reveals a rumour rampant in the past few
days that Chatham will become the eighth team in the
league for the 1978-79 season.
Top University Performer
One of the most prominent players with this year's var-
sity hockey team at the University of Pennsylvania is
Geoff Roeszler.
Jeff, who is the son of Grant and Doreen Roeszler,
formerly of Crediton recently tied a school record for
defencemen by scoring one goal and adding three assists
during a 6-5 loss to Harvard.
He played his minor hockey with Southwest London and
Junior "B" with the Windsor Royals and Chatham Fords,
His parents now reside in Chatham.

remaining on a play with Doug
Brooks and Dearing, but the
locals couldn't get the equalizer
although they maintained the
pressure until the final whistle.
Easy victory
The Exeter bantams romped to
an easy 9-0 win over Lucan in
their lone outing of the week.
Lucan held the locals off the
scoreboard in the first period, but
they started finding the range in
the second and third, scoring one
goal while they were two men
short.
Rick Lindenfield paced the
attack with a four-goal per-
formance, while Dave Bell added
three.
The single tallies came off the
sticks of Ed Willis and Dave
Shaw,
Bill Glover had three assists to
lead in that department, while
Kevin Parsons had a pair.
Helping_ on one goal each were
Mike Murray, Pete Tuckey,
Wayne Smith,Shaw and Bell.
