The per diem rate for committee and session pay was increased four percent from $46 to $48 per day, and from $28.50 to $30 per half day, effective January 1, 1, 1978. The warden's honorarium was also increased by four percent to $2,750 for 1978 from $2,650 in 1977. Mileage allowances were in- creases as well effective January 1, 1978, from 16 cents per mile to 10.5 cents per kilometer for those receiving the car allowance of $60 per month; and from 21 cents per mile to 13.5 cents per mile to 13.5 cents per kilimeter for casual mileage. County department heads were limited to one out-of-the-province conference per year. The ap- proval of the committee or board concerned must be obtained and the trip will be permitted only if funds are available in the budget. and report. Herman Van Wieren, a resi- dent of Usborne township was named building inspector for the municipality. His duties will begin in January, 1978. A grant of $3,600 was approved to the Exeter swimming and minor sports program, It's the Usborne commitment for 1977. MONDAY TO FRIDAY BEGINNING MON., DEC. 19 UNTIL FRI., DEC. 23 usborne township tax collector Harry Strang told council members at a regular meeting Tuesday night that $296,000 had been collected in second install- ment of taxes. This amounts to about 90 percent of the total roll. A petition from Gerald Usborne names building inspector McFalls and others to have the watercourse of the Shapton municipal drain in Usborne township improved by means of a municipal drain was accepted. The drain petition will be forwarded to drainage engineer A.J. DeVos for a survey, plan as is the general case and Hanly could offer no reason for the omission. TO FIX ROAD Transportation and Com- munications Minister James Snow announced that tenders have been called for resurfacing on Highway 23 from Whalen Corners northerly to Mitchell for 15.9 miles; and updating of guide rails on Highway 8 from 5.1 miles west of Mitchell easterly to Stratford west limits at various locations. Tenders will be opened for this project at Ministry headquarters in Downsview January 18. Dinney Funeral Home, Exeter with Rev, Harley Moore officiating. Interment in Exeter cemetery. MILDRED HALL Miss Mildred Hall of Brandon, Manitoba passed away November 28, 1977 in her 60th year. Beloved daughter of R. E. Hall of Swan River, Manitoba, dear sister of Morley Hall, Exeter, Clifford, Benito, Manitoba, also one brother Leslie predeceased. Left to mourn are nine nephews and nieces. Funeral service was conducted from St. Paul's Memorial Chapel of Swan River, Friday, December 2, 1977, Rev. Brandon Ferguson officiating. DeVos will be requested to make An examina- tion and bring in a report, A motion was passed asking the Huron Board of Education and the Huron-Perth Separate School Board to accept two payments of rates in 1978. They will be on June 30 and December 15 and the two boards will be, ask- ed to continue this arrangement in future years until other arrangements are made, Ontario Home Renewal Plan officer William Routly reported work completed to a value of $4,- 900 with 12 projects completed and 10 still underway. Present building inspector Doug Triebner reported issuing five permits and making 22 in- spections. Value of the permits were $11,000 for residential and $23,200 for agricultural buildings, Twenty-seven join church Twenty-seven new members were welcomed into the congregation of Exeter United Church, Sunday, including two retired ministers. Among those transferring membership to the church were Rev, and Mrs. Stewart Miner from Neal Memorial, Port Rowan, and Rev. and Mrs. John Wareham from St. Catharines. Rev. Miner previously, served at Thames Road and Elimville, while Rev. Wareham was in charge of the Woodham church some years ago. Others joining the church by transfer on Sunday were: Gary Bean from Collingwood U.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Baptist from Strathroy U.C.; William, Frances and John Mickle from Hensall U.C.; Wilma and Bill Rose from Harcourt U.C., Guelph; Allan, Marilyn, Ron and Ted Johnson from Lucknow U.C.; Ernest and Gaye Kerr from Ontario St. U.C., Clinton; Mrs. Ella Willard from Trivitt Memorial; Jim and Jessie Ross from New Liskeard U.C.; Ken and Julie Easterbrook from Richard's Memorial, London; Mrs. Jean Isaac from Centralia U.C.; Angus and Marzetta Earl from Zion U.C.; and Mrs. Verna Hay from Hensall U.C. ELSIE EARL At South Huron Hospital, Exeter, on Monday, December 12, 1977, Elsie Rae (Gunning) Earl, of Exeter, in her 77th year. Beloved mother of Mrs. Everard Miller (Edith), of Grand Bend; Mrs, Howard Kerslake (Mary), of Exeter; and Mrs. Phillip Johns (Marjorie), of Usborne Town- ship. Dear sister of Mrs. Edna Passmore, of Exeter and Mrs. William Tookey (Hilda), of London. Mrs. Earl was predeceased by her husband James Earl, in 1964. Also sur- viving are 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Wednesday from the Hopper-Hockey Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Wright officiating.
