Playhouse bazaar success, church people busy
The Playhouse Theatre Guild
annual tea and bazaar was held
Saturday at the home of Marney
and Don Brown, in Southcott
Pines. A large number of guests
attended.
The Brown home was a
fairyland of twinkling lights and
garlands of evergreens,
Christmas trees and wreaths.
The bazaar area held a
quantity of attractive articles
Offered for sale.
The baking table groaned with
products from the kitchens of
members and friends.
Hand work and crafts were in
abundance, including a large
section of stuffed dolls and
animals.
A book corner held tables of
books - new books - many best
sellers.
A "Boutique Noel," corner of,
"This and That articles", and a
table of Christmas plants.
During the afternoon, theatre
season tickets, hasty notes and
Guild cook books were available.
Dave Sheppard, played
Christmas music during the
afternoon in the tea are,.
A robe and matching nightie,
donated by Lottie Ii,off, of London
was won by Phyl Wilkins of
London.
Mrs. Bill Amos, Parkhill, Mrs.
Jack Riddell, Dashwood, and
Mrs. Lorne Henderson, Oil
Springs, poured tea and coffee
during the afternoon.
The Guild executive would like
to thank all members, friends
and neighbours, who were
responsible for making this
project the success that it was.
Couples Club
The Grand Bend Couples Club
met Saturday evening at the
United church with 22 in at-
tendance, when they all enjoyed a
Christmas turkey supper with all

Mary Rowcliffe chaired the
program for the agriculture and
canadian Industries committee,
Fern Dougall gave the motto

Pentecostal
ladies elect
The December meeting of the
W.M,C. of Exeter Pentecostal
Tabernacle was held at the
church.
After carols and an opening
prayer, the roll call was an-
swered with a Bible verse per-
taining to Christmas.
Year-end reports were
presented, and the officers for the
coming year were elected. They
are: President - Mrs. Keith
McLaren, Vice President - Mrs.
Eldon Millar, Secretary - Mrs.
Don Reynolds, Treasurer - Mrs.
Cliff Blanchard.
"Secret Sister" gifts were
exchanged, and new names
drawn. Husbands then joined
their wives and all present en-
joyed a turkey dinner and an
evening of fellowship.
The Women's Missionary
Counsel from the Exeter Pen-
tescostal Church gathered at the
home of Mrs. Meina Eizenga,
November 24.
Mrs. Keith McLaren presided
over the service. Mrs. Bruce
Cann led in the singing of the
hymn "Honey in the Rock." Mrs.
Milford Prouty opened the
meeting in prayer. They also
sang hymn "All That Thrills My
Soul." The chorus was sung
"Isn't He Wonderful."
The roll call was taken by Mrs.
Don Reynold and answered by a
scripture verse on "Drink".
The business was transacted. It
was decided to send a Christmas
missionary box to home
missionaries.
Mrs. Estrella Finkbeiner gave
a missionary reading and Miss
Marion McLean gave a
Missionary message about God
and Betty Bridgeman and her
work in Angola in Africa,
Lunch was served by the
hostess and Mrs. Cecil Kipfer,
and Mrs. Don Reynold,
Miller lighting the second candle,
a purple one, "Purple is the
symbolic colour of Penitence."
A short dedication service
followed of new Church doors,
Which were purchased from the
proceeds of the Grand Bend U.C.
Memorial Fund. Also dedicated
was a silver serving plate,
presented to the church by Rev,
and Mrs. Earl Burr, in memory
of Mrs, Burr's parents, Mr. &
Mrs, Garnet Patterson,
Rev. H. Morre's sermon text
was, "They knew him not," and
Instrumental and Alma
Etherington gave current events
and told of a recent trip her and
her husband had taken to
England. Visiting many places of
interest. Also their son and
family living there. Jean Pooley
gave humorous readings.
Fern Dougall introduced Jean
Johnston of Carlingford, who
gave an interesting talk on a trip
she had taken to Labrador in
search of material for a book she
is composing.
Jean Mills gave report of the
District executive meeting in
Hensall.
The district annual, is to be
he1d the third Thursday in May,
1978.
Plans are being made, for the
75th anniversary of district
Institutes on May 6, 1978.
Christmas and other crafts
were on display and commented
on by their makers.

Rosemary of Capreol spent the
weekend with Mr, & Mrs. Fred
Parkinson, Margaret and Janet,
Mrs. Kate Carriotti returned
home after spending two months
with the Parkinsons.
Rev. & Mrs. John P. Cooke,
Thamesford visited Friday with
Mr. & Mrs. George Wheeler and
Mrs. John Butters,
White Gift service was held
Sunday morning during the
church hour. The gifts along with
a bale of used clothing were sent
to the Saugeen Indian Reserve at
Southampton.
The Friendship and Visitation
committee of Hensall United
Church packed and delivered 28
parcels on. Tuesday morning,
December 6 under the ladership
of Mrs. Audrey Christie.
Charles Mickle, Hamilton
spent the weekend and Mr, &
Mrs. Ross MacMillan, Tom and
Anne, Waterloo, William Mickle,
Exeter and Mrs. Florence Joynt
visited Sunday with Mrs. Laird
Mickle.
Mr. & Mrs. Dick Grace, Kim
and Scott, Burlington, Mr. & Mrs.
Don MacLaren, Jodi, Brooke,
Oakville were recent visitors
with Mrs. Bertha MacGregor,
the trimmings.
During clean up time, several
practiced for the Christmas
concert play. A gift exchange was
enjoyed,

Desjardine, Harley and Elaine
Moore.
Mark Advent
The United church Observed
the second Sunday in Advent,
Sunday morning, with Glen
choir anthem was was, "The
Light of Christ."
Upcoming events at the United
church are as follows, the general
U.C.W. meeting, December 13, at
8:00 p.m, with •all annual reports
to -be received,
'The Grand Bend Carol Service
will be held at the church on
Wedneida3, evening,' December
21.
The Grand Bend U.C.
Christmas Concert will be Friday
evening, December 9, at the
church, beginning at 7:45 p.m,
Mrs. Alex McGregor, Kippen,
Ilene Mathers, Hurondale, Mrs,
Albert Alexander, Hensall, Mrs.
Lorne Chapman, Seaforth.
Mrs. Al Hogarth, Kippen East
thanked the ladies.
The December meeting is to be
held at Usborne school,
December 13.
Bible Study each Wednesday
evening at the United Church at
8:00 p.m.
The Pastoral Charge Christ-
mas Eve Service will be held this
year at Greenway U.C.,
December 24 at 7:30.
Ladies Meet
The regular monthly meeting
of St. John's Anglican ladies
group was held at the Parish hall,
Thursday afternoon,
The future activities of the
group were under discussion -
with a pot luck supper in January
and some other spring affairs.
There will be a Carol service on
December 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the
Anglican church, followed by
refreshments served by the St.
John ladies group.
Tea and cake were enjoyed at
the end of the meeting.
At Seminar
Five couples from Church of
God and friends, attended a
Family life seminar, in McIVIoran
auditorium in Port Huron, Friday
evening and Saturday.
Speakers were Dr. and Mrs.
Tim La Haye.
Mr. & Mrs. John Steckle, of
Dashwood were; presented with a
token of appreciation, as being
host couple for the area.
Rev. John Campbell, attended
a provincial committee meeting,
Monday, a t Church of God in
Kitchener. '
Orpha Club Meets
The annual Christmas party
and pot luck supper, of the Orpha
Club was held Thursday night at
the Village Inn, with 28 in at-
tendance.
All the shower gifts, of hand
made toys, clothing and etc, were
on display, which will go to
Lambton County Childrens Aid at
Sarnia.
After dinner a sing song of
Christmas carols was enjoyed.
During the social time they
played court whist and winners
were Shirley Pole and Marge
Mason.

January 17 at the home of 'Mrs.
W.F.B. MacLaren.
