their regular meeting held Mon-
day, announced the appointment
of Herman Van Wieren as
Building Inspector. Mr. Van
Wieren will also be responsible
Stanley council names Van Wieren as buildinOnspector
for bylaw enforcement and the
inspection of homes applying un-der the Ontario Home Renewal
Program,
In other council action, grants
of $400 and $100 were made to the
Federation of Agriculture and to
the National Farmer's Union.
A motion from the township of
Sandwich. West calling for
alterations in the Highway Tref-
fie Act to allow the owner of a
motor vehicle to be charged
when violating school bus safety
procedures was approved.
Members of council endorsed a
resolution as proposed by the
Clerk's and Treasurer's Sion dates for the payment of rates in
al 1978 and upcoming years.

The Sunday School members
and teachers were in charge of
the White Gift service of which
the theme was "Let the Children
Come". Miss Laurel Hodgert was
pianist and Miss Agnes Bray the
organist.
Miss Brenda Hodgert was the
narrator, Miss Ruth Bray was the
leader, Mrs. Lorne Ballantyne's
class, Robbie Passmore, Tammy
and Shawn Friesen, Jayne Rowe,
Deanne Ballantyne and Tom
Passmore took part.
Miss Lori Lynn Stewart led in
prayer, Lee Hodgert, Larry
Dawson and David Cunnington
read the Scripture Lessons.
The story Let the Children
Come was read by Pauline Pym,
Joyce Cunnington and Donna
Stewart with the children .par-

Mr. Hargreaves lit the second
candle in the advent wreath,
purple, the candle of hope. He
also pronounced the benediction
along with Miss Lori Lynn
Stewart.'
The flowers in the church on
Sunday were placed there by Mr.
& Mrs. Arnold Cann and family in
memory of the late Mrs. Elsie
Cann who passed away last week.
The sympathy of the community
is extended to the Cann family.
The annual Christmas concert
will be held Saturday evening
December 17 at 8 p.m. in the
church basement. '
Fun Night
It was a fun night at Thames
Road when superintendent,
Sunday School teachers,
Minister, young peOple, children
and parents gathered Friday
night for the "Hanging of the
Green".
A nativity scene in a little
stable in the church with ceramic
figures made and donated by
Mrs. Bernice Friesen. When the
scene was set Mr. Hargreaves
gathered the children around for
the story entitled "Trimming the
Christmas Tree". Enjoying cold
or hot chocolate and cookies
brought the evening to a close.
