Officers of the Lucan detach-
ment of the Ontario Provincial
Police are investigating four
breakins which occurred this
week. Three were in Lucan.
Tuesday morning the Lucan
branch of the Bank of Montreal
was found to be entered. Entry
was gained by forcing the lock on
the rear door. A yellow handled
slot screwdriver with a City of
London inscription was found at
the scene. Nothing appeared to be
stolen.
News lost
Don't look for any more Lucan
and area news. This is it. A
number of articles by our Lucan
correspondents Anita Giesen and
Mrs. M. H. Hodgins mysteriously
disappeared before being set for
this issue. As much as can be
replaced will be printed next
week. Sorry!

We have lots of members
around Branch 540 who have
something to crow about! How
about you? It's quite simple, my
friends, simply get your 1978 dues
paid prior to December 31 and
become an early bird. Fraternal
members are reminded their 1978
dues must be paid prior to
December 31. This is not our
decision but that of Command.
Many volunteers are urgently
required to assist with our
sponsored minor hockey. Your
executive met with the hockey
committee recently and to say
the least they are most disap-,
pointed with the support and co-
operation they have been
receiving from the members of
540.
Comrades, we have over 200
members, surely our Legion
sponsored minor sports program
deserves a small portion of your
time. Volunteers are required
on the following days to work at
the arena - Friday nights from 6
p.m, until 9:30 p.m. - Saturday
afternoons from 1:30 p.m. until
4:15 p.m. and Sunday nights from

A total of 10 accidents were
reported this week to the Lucan
detachment of the Ontario
Provincial Police, Injuries were
reported to four persons and
property damage was estimated
at $10,940.
Weather was a factor in eight of
the mishaps. Community Ser-
vices Officer Constable G. J.
Barker suggests this week that
"motorists will have to drives
slower with worsening weather
conditions or accept the fact they
may be in an accident."
Barker continued, "When the
speed limit is posted at 50 or 80
kilometers per hour, this means
the limit only under ideal, con-
ditions. From watching some
drivers during less than ideal
conditions it would appear they
are going to the maximum speed
no matter what,"
